many thanks for your reply we do live in a council property and would need premission to erect something aboue a 6 foot fence in which at the moment would be more trouble than its worth , with these neighbours they dont seem to care if there cats cause mayhem we keep phoning up the council and complaining about there cats distroying what we have done , our concern is if our dog was to catch one in our garden what would happen if the cat was hurt

 

hi we have tried plastic spikes on to of fence but i think these cats have hobnail boots on as they still walk on the fence

 

We don't own cats but they get under the gate, i leave a gap because of the hedgehogs. I feed the birds so i block the space under the gate with 4 house bricks but i have to remove them every evening so the hedgehogs can get in.
I know that the cats get in that way because I've watched them.

 

I've always had Cats since I was married, don't have any now sadly.
I put food out for the Foxes each night, which sometimes the Cats will steal this food.

If I've dug a part of the garden I pop plastic netting over and I find this stops the Cats from leaving little presents.

Not a cat lover at all. How cats are allowed to spread germs in anyone's borders without the owner having to be responsible is truly beyond belief. I would make all owners responsible. They are not welcome here.

 

This was dusty, sadly many years gone, we had her for 16 years, I used to have a 60ft long hawthorn hedge and my abiding memory of her was watching her walking along the top of the hedge the whole length of it after I'd trimmed it, I was always amazed she didn't rip her pads to pieces.

 

Tricky that. I have four cats regularly around the garden three of which happen to live in at least two houses locally.
I find that if I just move them on before they get too comfy they don't hang around long. They do deter the pigeons a bit though.
They also like to curl up in the dried culms at the base of the bamboo, despite the old stumps, and take the morning sun.

 

Here is one more, we call him/her White Tip.

 

The little female cat that I took pity on. Neighbour downstairs denies it's hers, nevertheless this little creature has provide a fair bit of pin money for her, by having litter after litter. Anyway, I felt the cat wasn't be fed, niether the dog, evidence here. A well fed dog etc won't usually gotge itself on, paper, packaging and even previously deposited excreta.

Now the cat, and another of the same household, are on my doorstep as soon as I open the door. Until recently, little cat, has been reluctant to being touched. Perhaps unbelievable. My greeting is always. Hello, what do you want. This cat now answers, by saying as clear as anything, hello. It has now taken to head butting my hand. It wastes no time, as soon as the door is open, it's halfway up the stairs and back and forth, then it will prod the bag of treats I keep inside the door.

Truly cats befriend you, not the other way around. True they will do their best to cover any deposits they leave, but sadly other animas detect this and will add to the pile. I agree that owners should be responsible. However the come back is always. A cat has a roaming commission. As I have mentioned before. In the 1950's cats basically had no legal protection. Now due to various protection groups, they do have protection. So what can you do?

Cats are also sensitive to smells so you could use peppermint lavender etc natural strong smells butThe best way though is get a cat and it frighten all the other cats away.

cats will help to keep vermin away though and some vermin can damage plants so putting up with cats could it be ,a small price to pay?
I don't have problems with cats not with tiggs around but I do have problems with squirrels

 

I just read a few gentle way to deter cats.

Little bowls of vinegar placed where they like to frequent. And sprinkling coffee grounds on the garden.

I rarely see any cats because they are not allowed to roam in my town so I enjoy seeing them when they escape and come by but if I didn't want them around, these seem to be gentle solutions.

I can understand the smell of vinegar would be off setting but the coffee grounds? Maybe they don't like setting their paws on it?

Just thought I'd share.
