I used to get a lot of mess from birds perching on my TV aerial until I bought a plastic owl and strapped it to the mast. That works.

Perhaps Trux should get a pretend eagle owl and hang it off his roof - that would put the wind up any cat. I understand that when the real eagle owls move into an area some of the local cats go missing.
As for dogs damaging the garden. I rarely get pots knocked over and the dogs have always known not to trample through the borders - a stern word soon gets the message across. The lawn does lose out, but you have to make sacrifices for your pets.
I wouldn't put mouse traps out in the main garden. I once put one in a greenhouse and found it had caught a robin, even though the greenhouse was kept shut - very upsetting.
BB guns - they can easily cause eye injury. I fired one of my sons at a target over 8 feet away. It bounced off and hit me right by the eye (I was wearing goggles) but it didn't half hurt and I could understand why they say you must wear goggles when firing them.

Dunno about designing uproar, Mel. I think he's just been downright mischevious! [IMG]

I know it doesn't work for all cats, but a pump action water pistol from woolies has my desired effect.
Cats just hate to get wet.

The only other option I've tried that worked was bulk ground black pepper - its pricey but does work.

No. To put the record straight, I admit to having a hatred of cats. My 3 year old grandaughter is now permanently blind in one eye due to attempting to fuss a cat which had entered their garden and had her eye damaged by the claws as the creature reacted with considerable venom. The owner was traced and dismissed the incident with the usual "Cats cannot be controlled. It was her own fault."

I did NOT intend to upset anyone and I am not a publicity seeker nor a mischief maker.

I like the idea of an imitation eagle owl. Would THAT keep everyone happy? Where can I get one (or maybe 2)??

trux, I was badly clawed by my mothers cat years ago, it made me frightened of cats for years their claws, went to someones house to stay and they didnt tell me they had cats, while sitting in their lounge 2 white cats came in and i was terrified, the cats must of sensed this and wouldnt leave me alone so i had to walk out, since then i have overcome my fear of cats and i certainly wouldnt take the law into my own hands.
As for imitation eagle owls i guess you could look in the garden centres maybe you could get 5 :D :D [IMG]
