Cats in the garden

Yes I have tried orange peel. I have also tried every other commercially available deterrent. My problem is WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO KEEP OTHER PEOPLES ANIMALS OUT OF MY GARDEN?

 

How strange that I keep reading about cats not covering their poos up in this thread! In spite of the neighbourhood cats wandering around our garden, I never find uncovered poos.

Are you suggesting that to stop getting small poo from the little cats we ourselves deposit even bigger poo from bigger cats??

we must have at least a dozen cats that live around us and that includes our two but we still have a very pretty garden and veg patch.
I am not happy with this thread at all seems to be causing undue stress to cat owners. I dont want to sound like a grumpy old biddy. very unhappy about this.

Agree with you Fancy and I don't care if anybody thinks I am a 'grumpy old biddy' I still think some are getting their knickers in a twist about it.

The best way to get rid of cats you do not wish to be in your garden ... me, cat lover, speaking ... is take a hose to them, if you are actually around.

I have problems with one of my "newbies" in the house and I have water sprayers EVERYWHERE and I use them. If it doesn't work, the little b***ar gets thrown out of the house without brekkies ... because he does this about 6-7am.

There's always a reasonable method of handling cats ... they are wild critters remember.

 

I have used a pump action super soaker to good effect in the summer.

 

MIL keeps one handy by her patio doors, to deter Tom from going too near her bird-table...... They don't like water, and it's harmless - only injures their dignity!

I've always kept dogs until my last little one died last year. Since then I have been looking after a semi-feral Tom ( a victim, no doubt, of man's indifference) who started to appear in my garden. When he became ill with cat 'flu I had to keep him indoors to treat him and although he used a litter tray quite naturally the idea of controlling such a creature appears quite ludicrous to me. I had ten days of trial with puss continually up at the windows, clawing the curtains and moaning and yelling. He's now back outside, where he's happy, with a kennel to return to. I'm afraid I don't know where he relieves himself. Hopefully, if it's not in my own garden, it's in that of another gardener like myself who loves cats far more than pussy willow and wouldn't dream of harming an animal to protect a patch of dirt with a few plants in it.
