Cracking result Jack - really pleased to hear you are getting it sorted.

And fair play to the plumber too; I think more of anyone that is willing to put their hands up, admit their mistake, and get it put right. :dbgrtmb:

      Excellent progress Jack :)

What do you mean by this bit though, I must have missed something?

When the ceiling fell in, they came out, and for a couple of hours, we ran everything, and I chucked buckets of water around, flushed the toilet dozens of times etc and had to agree no leaks
Later when it rained I found the drips in the ceiling (same place as I had just covered it in clear plastic sheet)
The old toilet cistern used to overflow through the wall, they removed that cistern and the new one overflows into the toilet bowl
They had not sealed the hole in the wall, so when it rains and strong wind, it flows through into my ceiling

Ah now I understand, what a bunch of cowboys to leave a hole through your wall, lets the rain in and heat out.

Last winter we "needed" a new boiler due to a similar issue (I pay BG for emergency callout). So being a mechanic (not a boiler engineer though) I decided to take a look myself. I found the fault in less than an hour with no manual, schematic or any other info. Turned out that the small pipe which goes from the lower flue to a vacuum switch was blocked. Just blew it out and cleaned the whole flue area out.
If the switch doesn't sense the small extractor fan drawing air/fumes out it will not allow the boiler to ignite.

May not be applicable to you, but worth a punt.

        Fixed that for you:)

I'm glad you have what you consider a good result Jack. I'd be spitting feathers if this group had replaced good old kit with new cheap and nasty.
A warm Winter for you afterall! :)

Oh well, the brown stuff has hit the revolving blades

The wet gang said they would come and do it straight after the October holiday on Mon 28th
They did not turn up, gave them two more days, no joy
I went to write a REVIEW on their company, and the site states company in Liquidation
(the day they started their October holiday, after which they would complete my work )

Julie spoke to the local councillor and MP yesterday, (she has more front than I )
They are coming to visit on Monday to discuss
The main problem as I see it is, we are owners, not on benefits or council tenants, and the only way the council were involved, was through the disability side of things, where they awared Julie a discount on the costs which we had to pay for

I have already got a new respectable company in to replace the whole heating system
though having trouble getting a company to replace the ceiling 4x4 mtrs is too small a job
          Plasterers only skim new ceilings
Decorators do not do new ceilings
Builders not interested in small jobs

AND I thought in this period of Austerity people were looking for work

I might take a college course on plastering, do the job then advertise no job too small :-)

Jack - I don't know if its any good, but my mum had a chap sort out her bathroom after a company made a right pigs ear of it, and that included plastering, electrics, plumbing, the lot. He is based in Whitecraig I think, so probably just over the water from you? I can ask her to see if he would be up for your ceiling job if it helps?

Also, I'd be inclined to pursue the council for the costs (whole) of the new heating system and the new ceiling, as you would never have been in that position had it not been for their contractors sheer incompetence.

Thanks FC but I have already committed to the central heating, so it is just down to the ceiling bit now, and it is too small a job, for companies
Whitecraigs is not too far really though

Waiting now for the MP and councillor, to see what they can do
I am not holding my breath as, I am not on benefits or council house

The old save and pay your way live on £180pw get nothing
Live on £288pw benefits get everything

All young ones on here, spend all you have whilst you have it, you will be rich

Found a young plasterer, who will do it, uses a joiner friend who will repair/replace the ceiling, and he will tape and plaster it

Next problem, replacement central heating, they need to access the pipes, which entails removing a side panel in the sitting room (just redecorated)
We had a full roll of wallpaper left over for such an occasion, but Julie decided the grandkids could use it for drawing on :-(
Do you reckon I could use the steamer to remove the one strip, and be able to use that paper again ?

I will give it a try anyway

If you only just redecorated then the shop should still stock that pattern, give them a ring Jack to see if they will put one aside for you :blue thumb:

Well the company turned up and repaired the ceiling, then the plasterer turned up and skimmed it all
I would not let them near the heating/Plumbing

My private decorator arrived bang on time and has done an excellent job at a reasonable price

Today the Central heating company arrived bang on time, two excellent young men Plumbers, completed most of the work, I was worried about the new decorated sitting room possible damage, they worked around that and took the system another way, up an outside wall for the gas, and the condensate pipe back out the same way
They even did a small job for me free gratis, I offered them something but they said the tea and biccies were more than enough
Builder in the morning for the flashing on the roof, then commissioning

Shorts, sunglasses and Rum at the ready, Sauna in the Kitchen at 15:00 :-)
                No decorating required

                All set for CRIMBO
