The old saying of "One man's meat is another mans poison is very true". When I moved to our current home there was an enormous patch of Rhubarb about 6ft square. The leaves could grow to about 4 ft across:yikes:. As none of us like Rhubarb I tried digging it out...failed. Nothing for it but to use Roundup. Six yes 6 applications later I had managed to kill it. If only I had known of GC then I would have offered chunks of it to anybody who wanted some, altho the postage would have been gigantic

What you are doing is known as "forcing" - excluding light from rhubarb plants and keeping them warmer causes them to crop earlier and produce sweeter stems

Just noticed you are from Sheffield - forcing rhubarb is massive in West Yorkshire where the traditionalists harvest it by candlelight!! :birthday:

I can't put up any photos for a while as my computer is going back into hospital and I'm using an old (very old :old:) laptop. I've picked 25lb of rhubarb so far and there's at least another 50lb waiting to be picked. This latest wet spell has worked wonders with the rhubarb. :blue thumb:

A few fields i metal detect not too far from my location are full of copper buttons, reason being years ago they used to use old clothes to cover the crowns.
