Chelsea Flower Show

Yup, I don't get that whole "rugby scrum" on the last day.
Most of those plants are available through garden centres, and often mail order.
And you don't have the hassle of getting it home on public transport, damaging it etc.

 

@Joolz I'm back from the Show, and what a day it was! Was it crowded, hectic, and overwhelming? Yes! Will I go back next year? Definitely! Full review is to long to post here, so you can find it on my blog

Just read your blog post chick, thanks for such a great perspective of it. My hubby loathes crowds at the best of times, so a Saturday visit would defo be off the cards for us. lol... Looking forward to your second post.

 

Thanks @Joolz, I think hating crowds is a bit of a deal breaker for doing Chelsea. Apparently the crowds are somewhat better on members day, but its still quite crowded. It might suit your other half better to go to the Hampton Court flower show, which I'm told is similar in terms of content but much less busy (I would have gone here next, but am on holiday at the end of June when it takes place), HC is also a wonderful historic venue in itself so you can visit that too.

Next year I will be doing a few things differently for Chelsea though, my post should be up in a few days when i've thought over what best to advise other newbies.

My mother in law is a keen gardener, we've often talked about going, so I could go with her. I'd prefer to go on a weekday as, even though I don't mind crowds in the slightest, what with it being plant sell off day too, I think I'd rather miss all the hussle and heaving. lol..

 

I actually found the member day much more hectic than the normal day afternoon

 

@JackJJW I have heard that too, so plan to be there as early as possible on the first members day to see if it's any better (with fingers tightly crossed!)

 

@Joolz i've just put up my top tips for newbies considering going to Chelsea next year . I've tried to give an honest description of the good and the bad to help people decide whether they'll really enjoy it, and advised on the type of detail that the usual guides often miss (why does no-one ever mention what the loos are like?!). Good luck with your decision!

Regarding the Chelsea Flower Show, no doubt it is a beautiful display of flower, plants, ornaments etc...but, to me, the fact that you have to push your way around for so many hours and queue for practically everything, dedract considerably from the enjoyment of the day. This is why God created Shiney open day running parallel to this event. So that, should one decide to take it easy and buy some reliable potted plants/flowers (), it is possible.

Good sales pitch there @shiney And, if it falls the same time as this year, then your open garden weekend will fall the same time as my birthday again. Shall have to persuade hubster that we need a weekend away in that neck of the woods.
