Quite possibly, but they may also think 'I'd better conserve energy'. :noidea:

Having more space is likely to allow it to develop more roots and a stronger plant.

We have been growing Scotch Bonnets for 3 years - the first year we grew in 5 litre pots - got hundreds of tiny chillies that ripened early - totally useable just nowhere the size you buy in the local supermarket but much tastier and hotter.
Last year was a wash-out - but this year we have potted some of them on to 10 litre (final size) and already the chillies are getting larger - today Mr S did the rest - we are growing in the garden The orange habaneros are nowhere near setting fruit although both were started at the same time and have had the same treatment.

      Hello chums.

Just what conditions do Chilli's like? Mine were doing fine, but now they just seem to have stopped? I have them on the floor, in the greenhouse.

Mine are roasting away in the fly away greenhouse at 35C. Seem quite happy.

Am I right in the thinking the temp that they grow in correlates to the heat of the chili?

Well mine have croppedbut the two hot varieties have absolutely no heat ! They are Hungarian Hot wax and Fuego F1 , not a clue how this can happen ! :gaah: They are bland and just OK to cut up for a salad. Is it possible the second set of Chillies may be up to specification and have a bit of ooomph !?
Mine are also in a GH which touches 30°c.

      Hiya Harry.

FWIW, I've found (in my very limited experience) that they get hotter as the season progresses.
So, mine should be ok then in the greenhouse? What about direct sunlight?

Thanks Freddy hope they do improve . I gave lots of plants to workmates and friends . So my Gardeners Corner reputation is on this one
Direct sunlight must be good for Chillies , they are native to Mexico , so thrive on heat and sunlight. Now we are having a week or so of +20°c temps they may like a spell outside. I am moving mine out today to let them have some sun and air for a week !

You can get different heats of chilli from the same plant but, generally, the longer you can leave them on the plant the hotter they get.

          Dunno about that one Freddy.
Thanks Shiney I'll leave my developing Chillies on the plants until they are showing red.

I'm growing the one you gave me Loli, it flowered the other day. But for some reason none of my chilli's are really doing anything to be honest. Get water and tomato feed on the regular.

          :dunno:

With this heat lots of flowers are dropping as they fade (instead of turning into a pod/chilli) - on both the chinense hotties and the jalapenos - not so many chillies on the jals but plenty under the canopy on the bonnets - though still not as big as the shop ones - but definitely bigger in the 10l pots - Curry tonight for Mr S to try out his first crop of 2013
