      Nice one James:dbgrtmb:

Only just got the tiniest buds showing on mine, they've been looking like they wanted to set flowers for a month now.

Just a few quick photos of some of my chillies. Don't know the names of any of them :heehee:

      Black chillies

These are miniature plants that crop very well - 2nd year. Very, very hot - hotter than our Nagas :hate-shocked:

These are plants that are a new variety (don't think they're named yet). They're a bit behind as I didn't pot them on - must do that this weekend.
They look more like aubergine plants at the moment!

      Have to wait and see.

I'll try to take a better photo of the last one but Mrs Shiney, who keeps a record of our trials of new varieties, says that the name for that one is 'vampire' - at the moment.

The two year old ones in the middle picture hadn't been named when we trialled them last year and we haven't heard whether they have since been named. The height from the rim of the pot to the top of the highest chilli is no more than 4" (you can see the black rim of the pot behind the chillies) and we have picked a dozen already. Quite prolific for a dwarf plant.

I would guess that they are between 500,000 and a million Scoville but they definitely weren't that hot last year. Last year they were quite variable in heat (even throughout an individual chilli) but this year, so far, they have been consistently very hot. both years they have had a nice fresh flavour - not like the pungent flavour of a Naga.

As the heat of chillies can vary considerably depending on growing conditions and even between fruit on the same plant I'm not enamoured of the Scoville scale except as a rough guide. The proof of the chilli is in the eating. :)

Mrs Shiney has lots of contacts as she used to lecture on plants - but I think pic 2 was a trial we were doing for Which?. It would have almost certainly been an F1.
