Most chillies can easily take higher temperatures but they need to be kept moist. The extremely hot chillies actually prefer higher temps. The ShineyHybrids are happy at fairly low temps. That's why I don't bother to heat them for germination. When potted on they will be in the lounge by the patio doors and on my office windowsill with no added heat but the rooms are warm. At the end of April they will go in the heated propagator in the greenhouse.

That chart is good but doesn't distinguish between sweet and hot peppers nor the different varieties - they'd need a lot more space to do so.

ShineyHybrids only need 70F for quick germination (four day) whereas Nagas need 80F and 10-14 days germination.

It's definitely moist in there. It's not adjustable so will wait and see :)

Easy to add a thermostat; as @Hanglow post above on 21/1/23

Is that a separate unit that the propagator plugs into?
I have another one which has a control on it but it's pretty big so I generally don't use it

There was a thread a few years back offering GCers a discount, worth searching. I got one and someone did a review of it.

I used a meat temperature probe this morning and the compost is 19c same as the air temp inside my propagator. My chillies emerge in around 6 days, keeping them on the cooler side stops them going leggy.

I was planning on switching off the propagator once (if) they germinate. It's pretty warm anyway so should be ok. I'll have to set up the grow lamp next

@Loofah search for Inkbird in titles there are several threads.

Personally I find the Inkbird thermostat too complicated and have to resort to YouTube to remember how to set it up. I have another one made by Biogreen to control the heating in my greenhouse and that is nice and simple and accurate, maybe more expensive.

Even if it's simple and excellent I'd find it hard to invest in given I have 3 propagators already so one of them at least should be fine. I think the windowsill one is a bit cooler

How about just getting a timer they are fairly cheap and you can set it one hour on one hour off Status Timer Switch - GF971 - Buy Online at Nisbets

                        Just an idea.

Thanks @pete , I have a few knocking around but really I don't think this is a problem and if it is at least I'll know for next time :)

If I was worried about the cost, I would get one Inkbird and plug an extension into it which would in turn receive all three propogator plug. Put the sensor in one of the units and hope that as the Inkbird switches the power off according to the temps in the one with the probe, it will maintain fairly much that same temp across the other two. Is that as clear as mud?

I use two inkbirds for downstairs and the most difficulty I have is finding out what I did with the darned instructions come seed starting time. I now have them taped to the grow unit!

@shiney I've got the baggies of seeds which are lain on wet paper towel in front of a heat register which blows from the central heating.

And you're not going to believe this, I just started them after your post yesterday and one of the Yellow reapers has stuck it's white tongue out! Absolutely astounding!!!
