The inkbird is good, I bought it for homebrewing intially as it can control both heat and cold and I've measured it with two other higher end thermometers and my unit is accurate to within half a degree which is good enough. Also used it to proof bread dough. All of this is of course not strictly necessary but I like having toys to play with

For germination I usually set to 27c, then once germinated I've set it to 22c I think. Otherwise the heat mats are too warm and plants get really spindly.

@CanadianLori that's brilliant. Make sure that the paper doesn't dry out. We use that method for germinating most of our small seeds - tomatoes etc. :)

I've been a naughty girl. Using plastic ziploc bags - hopefully that will delay any drying out. :)

Had my Inkbird wired up to heater cables, worked great.

Using it right now with the heater cable wrapped around my hot water tank s overflow pipe thats been dripping and has frozen solid at times during winter freezes. Works a treat set to 2c.

Nightmare trying to get a heating engineer with G3 qualification to look at it right now.

That's not naughty, you are repurposing and upcycling so go to the top of the class. :pathd:

That's why our seed sprouters have lids. :)

I will be sowing this years seeds this month, after a real glut last year I am trying to behave myself and grow less this year. Anaheim and Hungarian Hot Wax will be m main crops as they are the ones we like eating. Sweet peppers will be Corno di Terro Rosso, one I have not grown before.

So far, all have reached the two leaf stage but we have decided to wait a while and see how strong they get and pot on the 50 best ones. We're in no hurry.

80% perlite, rest is compost just to help rooting

To be honest I didn't know perlite would succeed. Good to know.

Current rough set-up. We're guinea pig sitting for a few days. Timer comes on at 1600-2230.

Nice. A supply for the compost heap,a good activator. Serious about getting a pair just as "shredders" of cabbage stalks etc. Not sure the rescue centre will sanction putting their 'fur babies' to work.
