We have one - had it a good few years now, and to be honest we don't use it much now as we found it quite cumbersome in our small kitchen.

One word of caution with the Tefal ones (which are the best of the bunch in my opinion) - there is a filter mesh at the back of the fryer cavity, almost directly opposite the front of the machine, where the hot air comes in from - this must be kept scrupulously clean as failure to do so can result in fire. I know of two people who had this happen and were apparently unaware that the filter screen was even there.

One big advantage of the deep fat fryer is that they are so cheap that once they get really difficult to clean you can throw it away and buy a new one.

Can't beat home made chips, twice fried, a decent spud like a Marfona, drained, plenty of salt and vinegar, and put the last few in a slice of fresh bread, laced with proper butter, tommy sauce or HP sauce optional, or as a nice change, a drop of salad cream.:recliner:

Have had a Phillips Air Fryer for 7 years and it is used a lot, mainly for chips and part-baked bread rolls. But I also use it for meat loafs, breaded chicken fillets and such like. You can always brush with a little vegetable oil to moisten beforehand. It only takes moments to clean.

Neither of us like home-made chips which can be soggy/greasy ... we like "armadillos", crunchy on the outside, soft in the center.

As it's been such a terrible year for everyone with only the garden to really bring a smile to our faces then, PA, then I would say you have all of the GC Gang's blessing to have Chips for Breakfast and that some might be joining you to do just that.:heehee:
Just an aside, I was already in the process of ordering a Ninja Max Air Fryer before this thread and it's due to arrive on Thursday..........so I might be having a Christmas breakfast of Chips.:heehee:

Not if you use descent oil, and replace regularly, the tip is not to overload the pan, fry on a lower heat approx 190C, until they float, take them out, let them drain, wacknthe fryer up to 220C, drop the chips back in until, crispy and like Armadillo's, the potatoe is key, it needs to be a waxy type.

Just a quick fact, do you know why you cannot find the same vinegar as the local chippy?
Because its not actually vinegar, its actually called non brewed condiment.

To be honest the chips in the picture are chip shop chips not really the ones I like, they tend to be greasy and soggy.
I like crispy on the outside and floury in the middle.

Just seen this thread - my goodness I could scoff some chips now.

Our Boxing Day tradition is cold cut leftovers and homemade crinkle cut chips. My mum used to slave away doing homemade chips every year for us bless her, but they were appreciated.

My mum's best friend used to own a chip shop in Cleethorpes (the best place in the WORLD for fish and chips) and they always use Maris Piper. So that's what we use.

Ooh crinkle cut chips with sliced turkey, stuffing, bit of ham, pigs in blankets, pickled onions and home made pickled beetroot.....I much prefer Boxing day dinner to xmas dinner. :dancy:
