My greenhouse is on slabs. I got blight a few years ago and it keeps coming back earlier and earlier so I persume there was infected material there. The alternative to not using something is to give up on tomatoes permanently - but the boss wants better tomatoes than we can get from the supermarket.
I slabbed because after a while the soil gets sick and have not got a big enough garden to do a soil change.

Cause we would like them to ripen. We are in the North Midlands right up against the Welsh border, not balmy Southern England. We get fed up with green tomatoes.

Maybe if you start your toms earlier Geoff you would get them to ripen outside. We are a good few hundred miles north of you and always have a good crop of ripe outdoor toms.
Gardener's Delight were sown on 2nd April this year and I could probably have got away with sowing them a couple of weeks earlier. I didn't take a note of when we first picked them but guess it would be about late august to early september. Ripped out the plants just last week as the fruits were all splitting due to rain.

But I would like to have my tomatoes cropping earlier. This year they were in the greenhouse by beginning of April and were cropping early. Also the outdoor tomatoes got blight as well.
