Big freeze coming next week apparently. Other half has just told me the rivers are freezing over in Germany at mo.

......And while I'm typing this I'm sitting here fully clothed with my dressing gown over the top, just don't want to turn the heating up any more. :)

Sounds more like pneumonia than hot flushes. If you get the hand cramps get your self to hospital.

The Gov insulation guy came last week, and is going to give us
Cavity wall insulation the whole house for just £200

                  24" solid granite walls :-)

A real bargain that I had to refuse

I was intending putting the greenhouse heating on soon, but it's going to cost too much in gas if this weather keeps up and I'm working on a plan to cost justify a second grow lamp as being cheaper than all that gas I'd be using + new bubblewrap insulation required, and I'll still have the lights for other years.

I've just remembered my bags of seed compost in the shed - I hope they're not frozen as I've almost used up the stuff I brought indoors in 1 litre tins for standing on heaters to warm up before use. Mrs Scrungee is not happy when I bring bags of frozen compost into the house to thaw out.

I have the paraffin heater on very low to try keep the frost out in the greenhouse -6 outside +1 inside, its struggling now. With the price of fuel I rely on polystyrene and bubble wrap to keep tender plants safe, hope it dont get much colder because this is about my limit otherwise the cost outways the benefit.

Where's the cheapest place to get paraffin (emergency poly tunnel heaters, May & Oct) from these days? Last time I bought some was ages ago from B&Q as part of a spend to get 20% off and I think it was around £5 (full price) then, but last time I looked I was scared by what they were charging.
