At a Texas steakhouse, you're lucky to find ANY vegetables besides a baked potato! :snorky: We do like our steak!

I wish we had the room to raise a steer for the freezer. We've had cattle before, I do like cattle, but 8 acres, partly wooded, is not enough room for cattle. That and I just don't want to take on a 2,000 pound bull any more. I once had a Texas Longhorn bull that would lower his head and run at me. I carried a piece of pipe and took a baseball batter's stance. Just before he hit me, I stepped aside and hit him HARD on his nose. He and I had a lot of Come-To-Jesus meetings.

According to all the TV programmes you are supposed to just stand there and stare them down . That's what all the heroes do. :snorky:

Of course, we believe everything we watch. :heehee:

Imagine if the vegetarians spoke up, they would have found a more different place.

We have lots of beef on the hoof around these parts. And have seen some long horns roaming around, been missing taking pics of those. Also rolling hill with horses. We have fox hunts sometime. I would imagine Texas beef tastes different than beef up here due to feed, grass etc. Not saying better or worse, just different. My local butcher has a section of his store dedicated to butchering up deer caught by hunters.

Why? Beef is nothing more that reconstituted vegetables...:snork:

That sounds similar to some of the smaller butchers here also. If things such as moose, boar, small game and poultry are added. Theres a tendency here to think that such meats are healthier. If a wild animal gets sick, it dies. If one reared on a farm gets sick, its fed antibiotics until it gets well. Thats despite local laws....

When visiting a friend in Fort Worth Texas a couple of years ago, we went to a burger restaurant. The size of the meal that arrived for me was about what I'd normal eat in 2 days!
I wadded my way through the burger and fries as I was brought up to clear my plate. Eventually I managed to finish the meal (felt like going and lying down in a darkened room to recover). The waitress arrived to clear the plates and turned to me with a big grin and said " good job ma'am" I have never before or since been congratulated for finishing a meal:).

55 years ago I used to go fairly regularly to a restaurant in Cape Town. They served 'Plank Steak' (steak served on a chunk of wood) and if you ordered their 'house special' they brought out a Porterhouse steak (T-Bone) that could weigh anything between 4lb and 7lb. The house rule was that if you could finish it you got it free but if you didn't finish it you had to pay for it.

I ate a lot of free meals :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
