while the other 92% excavated in Ireland is being used as fuel for their Power Stations.........and nobody seems to object to that!!:coffee:
And quite a bit gets sliced off in the small hours to fuel peoples' grates and wood burners . Makes a very tradable commodity ;)

Bought verve multi purpose 125ltr for £5.00 , looks ok , but depending on the plant will do my own mixes with John innes and sand/perlite .

I noticed at the garden centre the bags for 3 for £10.00 have gone down in size again ...

It'll only be a year or so until "New Bigger Bags" gets us back to the original size ...

Bought a bag of GRANDIOL from Lidyls today . £1.99 for 30ltrs. Feels dense and heavy - just like last years but I haven't opened it yet. I will tomorrow and take a piccie of some,

Grandiol and Grandiol with sand and grit 4 March 2013.jpg The first piccie is as it came out of the bag.Very dense, moist and heavy - I wouldn't use it like this for sowing seeds

I reckon, like this, with my washed beach sand and budgie grit mixed in- it will be good for potting on or in containers. Much too heavy for hanging basket work though. It will be good - say 50/50 with a very fibrous MPC.
            Any recommendations please?
            Jenny

It's that time of year again when some Garden Centres reduce old/worn/faded stock. My local Homebase is selling off all of its Westland 60L Container and Hanging Basket Compost with added John Innes reduced from £7.69 to £3.50/bag, but as there is 3 for 2 multisave it comes through the till at £7 for 3 bags, so 180L for £7, so just under 4p/litre.

I went back in and had another three bags after getting that and checking multisaves still worked with reduced stuff.

They also had loads of 15 Kg sacks of pelleted chicken manure reduced to £3.99 (£27p/kg - it's £1/kg in Poundland), but I've got stacks of it from last time it was around that price but on a 15% off weekend.

Weren't there 2 different grades of Grandiol sold last year - a seed compost and a potting up compost?

It says "Multipurpose - perfect for growing seeds, etc.etc." A runner or a broad bean maybe just able to force it's way up through but not yer average seed wouldn't Scrungee,

Looks like the end of yet another OK compost. 2 bags of Westland JI seed from Wilkos for £4 is the best quality & price seed compost deal I've seen this year.

i've been reading this thread with interest as in my last job in England i worked a garden where the main planting was of ericaceous plants. As it was working to an ecological standard they began to experiment with something called Moorland Gold, i don't know how successful it was, has anybody heard of or tried it?

Hi has anyone tried the Homebase compost? They do an organic one and a multipurpose one. They both seem to have decent reviews.I brought the BQ one last year but it was from the old stock so was very good. Haven't bothered since.

Yep, its utter garbage Dorothy so I'd try something else entirely.

I was in Wilko's over the weekend and noticed a stack of small compost bags. It looked ok from the small hole someone had kindly ripped in it...
