I need to treat the soil in one part of my garden, is there any good mulch available at garden centres?

Yes, most have a choice of suitable materials for use as a mulch. You can use any of the general-purpose composts that come in 50 or 75 litre bags, or you could use bark chippings.

Of course, some 'mulches' aren't organic, they're mineral -- like using gravel or other sorts of chippings just to reduce moisture loss. So you have to be clear if you're just mulching to add nutrients or for another reason.
