Of course we don't help ourselves do we?
We put a lamp in a fitting and then put a dark shade over it.
We've four uplighters on two switches in the front room and two wall lights and three table lamps in the lounge. Even with them all on it's a bit dark!
To read in the front room with two of the uplighters on I need to turn on my bendy tall lamp I use to light the music on my leccy piano and swing it round over the back of my chair.

Very true Doghouse, energy saving bulbs are ugly, especially those twisted ones, so Mrs JWK insists on hiding them behind shades which probably cuts out half the light

Energy saving ? Energy saving my big toe ! They take so long to get bright I have to put them on 'in advance' of when needed. Thus the leccie is on longer ! progress.... piffle .... mutter mutter mutter

10p for an energy saving buld at ASDA, so brought 10 so don't care if they blow often for that cheap price. ALL bulbs in the house are energy saving one's (except my office which has to be a silly tube bulb !! (designers !). Yep they do take a little longer to light up but as JWK showed, 4 hours of a energy saving bulb equals just 1 hour of the old type so got to be so much better.

Even better way to save, forget paper, get a backlit kindle reader and you can read in the dark and save even more money!!:hehe:

What about the light fittings themselves? With the old type light bulbs unless it is an uplighter style the plastic fittings get brittle and have to be replaced which is a real nuisance. With the new ones there is no heat to speak of so the fittings will practically last forever!!! Has to be better.:thmb:

Its looking good for the new blubs. The energy used is to start them up, once they are running they cost next to nothing. So dont switch them on and off every time you leave the room.

If you need to read then use some directional Light Emitting Diodes, now they really don't use much leccky.
