    That's well said. :blue thumb:

You should be able to show that you have prior rights if you have the photos save on your computer as they should be, automatically, dated.

@Sheal the example you gave is easily traced because the people who have used it have their name at the bottom. You can ask them to remove it, give you a byline (or similar), or pay you. In that case, they're likely to remove it and you won't need to do anything - not worth arguing about.

@Spruce In your case I would be asking for payment for infringement of copyright and tell them that they can then have a licence to use them at a nominal annual cost. I'm sure you wouldn't mind that they used them as long as they pay something for them. You could always offer to do some more for them at a nominal cost.

A word about wedding photography:- If you pay a photographer for your wedding photos you still don't have the rights to them - unless the photographer has put that into the contract. The photos that he gives you are yours. If you have them copied for someone else you're in contravention of copyright (but you can copy them for yourself only).

I use Flickr for posting my photos online. I upload them all to Flickr rights reserved...................

      https://help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr/SLN25525.html?impressions=true

      That is good enough.
      To be fair I don't give a t0$$ if people use my photo except;
      • When I found it in a GC on plant labels! I got paid
      • When someone posted it on another (US based) forum passing it off as growing in her garden. I just joined the forum and made a monkey of her by pointing out that it was my photo of my plant and providing the link :lolpt:
I myself occasionally embed other peoples photos when discussing a topic. Where appropriate (ie when I've taken the URL from a photo sharing site or someones personal website, blog etc) I provide a link to the original page.

Thanks all. :dbgrtmb: At the moment it's only pictures of plants and I rarely post any other shots of mine on the internet. They are personal and that is why they remain on my computer. Like you Longk, I don't have much of a problem as they are being used on the 'Images' sites, but if I spot them elsewhere and they are being used for the same reasons you have stated that will be a different matter.

A few years ago one of my pictures appeared on local TV.
I'm sure it was mine, but there was no way I cold prove it.

Someone else was sending into the local TV station.

              Are you volunteering Shiney!

Well, I've checked things out the best I can and it seems there's no harm being done at the moment so I won't be taking it any further. The eyes and ears will be open from now on though! :)

Thanks all for your input, it's much appreciated and has been stored in this old memory bank of mine for future reference. :dbgrtmb:

I don't have any editing software other than the basic Windows gallery adjustments.

Ah no idea then. I haven't used a windows comp since school so have no advice

Maybe someone else knows some free software that will do it

I swear by IrfanView for all my editing, moving and copying needs. It is very simple and intuitive to use.
That said I don't watermark but just had a go and it took about 10 minutes to master.

My Pentax K5 has a Copyright function in the menu and so data is put into the image identifying the image in my name. Have you looked through the menu of your camera, Sheal and Strongy to see if there's a copyright function in your camera??
