    I don't disagree, but how have we gone from seemingly knowing nothing about this virus a few weeks ago, to suddenly knowing that it is going to infect 30% of the population and cause all that disruption? Especially when the current number of infected people in the UK is sub-200?

    Something smells about it - either they know more than they are letting on, or this is being blown all out of proportion to allow a reason for other events (financial crash etc)

      If it has come from sales of wild animals then why isnt the there global outrage right now being reported about these animal market sales?

        I agree, but my son's firm gives sick pay for those that are salaried, those that are in higher ranking positions. The general staff don't get a penny.

        But this virus is said to be infectious not contagious.

        On another point there are those like my daughter that can't avoid the virus. She is a driving instructor and a high percentage of her students are still at school. She also knows that some of those schools have the virus but she doesn't know which students. Her job means she is in a confined space (the car) all day with students who could be carrying it.

          Because its bloody China, a known breeding ground for most things like this.

          That's not unusual even over here, only difference is we get the £90 a week, but salaried workers always got full pay.

            Hello you lot! I knew there would be a sensible chat on here about the Coronavirus so thought I’d pop in & take a look!

            Just a few rambling thoughts from me & a few things I’ve learnt over the past few weeks:

            Really random but Dettol surface cleaner (Dettox for those of you who are older) actually states on the bottle that it kills Coronavirus?? That’s just weird?? Bleach & 70% alcohol hand sanitiser also kills the virus.

            Panic buying!! My local Asda apparently has no toilet paper or cat litter....obviously a lot of sh*t going on round here! :heehee::heehee:

            At work we have posters teaching people to wash their hands & hand sanitiser available which I think is very sensible...but another client has no info or measures put in place at all....we all need to get onboard with this.

            I spoke to two friends today who both work for the NHS...there’s not enough nebulisers/breathing equipment, isolation wards for a severe outbreak. The NHS are of the opinion that the virus will be at its worst mid April. People are going to A&E departments even though the advice from the NHS is to ring 111 & follow their instructions...as ever the human race can’t follow a simple procedure! If a suspected infected person walks along a corridor at the hospital which isn’t the allocated corridor the area has to be shut off & thoroughly cleaned to stop further infection, should someone be brought in via ambulance with the virus it takes 4 hours for the ambulance to be thoroughly cleaned. The general thought is that operations will be cancelled if/when the outbreak happens here so the virus can be treated. Some very sensible procedures in place there I think.

            Another client has banned hand shaking....I’m not sure what we should do instead :whistle::whistle: maybe footsie, with slippers on of course..the virus doesn’t live long on soft surfaces :heehee: (I know it’s not funny) again another sensible procedure.

            Supermarket trolleys....I don’t even want to think about the germs on those...they freak me out when there’s not a virus :yikes:.

            Shineyland....surely that won’t be cancelled :yikes::hate-shocked:.

            That’s my ramblings

            stay safe xx :grphg::wub2:

              I'm self employed and won't get anything if I take a day off ill or for holidays. Not complaining as the extra rate is supposed to compensate for that. I usually go to work if I have a cold but I guess that won't be very popular right now.

                At work about half of the men I notice don't bother to wash or if they do they don't dry properly so all the office door handles are dripping wet - disgusting! I challenged one guy once why he walked out without washing, he was proud of himself because he said he hadn't actually touched himself so he didn't need to! I am sure it's not just men ...

                I play badminton after work at a local school and their facilities have always been very poor, this week as usual there was no soap in the hand wash dispensers and only one hand dryer working. This is the same sports hall that the kids use during the day, shows how little schools care about our children.

                  oh my goodness there should be proper facilities in schools for goodness sake! Golly has anyone from your badminton group not complained? This is shocking.

                  it’s not just men who don’t wash & dry their hands some women are as bad, I often wait for the toilet at work & even with me standing by the sinks some women just walk straight out without washing their hands :yikes::yikes:, then they make the tea & coffee....I always make my own & I have my own cup which I wash up!

                        We had slightly the opposite last night. One of my bridge clubs meets at an infants school. The toilet had a full liquid soap dispenser and a working hand dryer. I nkow they say you should wash in hot water but theirs was ridiculous. The hot top dispensed water so hot you couldn't put your hand under it!!! We were using the cold tap instead.

                            @JWK I rated your post about going to work with a cold "funny" because as soon as I read it, I pictured you in one corner and the rest of the people all squashed in a corner as far as they could get from you!

                            Someone once told me that it seemed that the more make up a woman wore, the less likely they were to wash their hands. Seems to sorta fit with what I've seen. They say that up to 60% of men don't wash after a pee and up to 40% of the women as well. Makes you wonder how such a large percentage could have been raised this way or too lazy to do as they've been told. I use public loos as little as possible and when I do, I always save the toweling I used to wash my hands, to grab the door handle to get out. Then discard. If no toweling, just blowers, I use my sleeve or shirt hem.

                            I've never heard of anyone getting sick from washing their hands so it really puzzles me about these slobs.

                                I think you will catch more germs by washing your hands in public toilets than by just getting out a quickly as possible, door handles, taps, the whole place is a nightmare even the soap dispensers, and don't mention hand dryers, they have been know for years as one of the biggest collectors of all things dodgy they don't get hot enough.

                                Anyway if your going to get corona it probably wont be from the local bog, more likely the shopping trolly or public transport.
