@Jiffy I did my shopping yesterday and noticed that what flour was left, was store brand. So the people are buying the expensive name brand. I go through just under 10 kilos a month so I watch for when the offers come up. A 10 kilo bag of store brand is $8.99 and the name brand is $13.99 for 8 kilos. Big difference but for a first time baker, 4 Roses and Robin Hood brands seem like the right thing to buy. And that is just all purpose flour. Bread flour is more again. I bought bread flour when I first started baking my own some 20 years ago but really, all purpose will do the job just as well. Depending on the recipe, I'll sometimes add a little extra gluten to get the dough I need.

So, after all that long winded babble above, it comes down to being that it is the numpties or naive who buy out the expensive items and of course, the store will set out more.

When you hear on the TV that the UK leads the world in scientific research - it's not just rhetoric:

The team at the University of Oxford had been preparing for an event like the Covid-19 pandemic before the current global outbreak.

They had already created a genetically engineered chimpanzee virus that would form the basis for the new vaccine. They then combined it with parts of the new coronavirus.

The result is, hopefully, a safe virus that trains the immune system to fight Covid-19.

The big question is whether this experimental vaccine will actually work.

Prof Sarah Gilbert, the lead researcher developing the vaccine, says she is 80% sure it will.

"This is my view, because I've worked with this technology a lot, and I've worked on the Mers-vaccine trials [another type of coronavirus], and I've seen what that can do.

"And, I think, it has a very strong chance of working."

Best in the world - come on Oxford :yay:.

The forum is quicker than that! By the time you reply several replies have already wedged in. But obviously in this community we have been married so long we are taking each other for granted and are reading each others thoughts. I like the thought of 1 kilo of rabbits though. And the married community here :heehee:

Ergotamine is used for bad migraine attacks but it can also cause gangrene if overused, as it's a vasoconstrictor (no, that's not a type of snake :heehee:).

What really bothers me about this statement is not the fact that success in creating a vaccine is within reach but that it should have been a function of the WHO to unite all countries in the search for a solutions to a world wide problem.

We need a new international health organization to coordinate all efforts.

Something along the lines of "You, UK and countries a b and c are good with creating vaccines, do it please. You work in this location together. You Taiwan and countries d e and f, you're good at control methods so set up rules of engagement please.". And on and on instead of the fragmented way it's being dealt with now.

So far the WHO has only delayed the truth and kissed China's behind.

And of course, we will need a giant accounting department to tote up the cost and bill it to the perpetrator.
