        From the Independent newspaper:

Coronavirus: Vaccine testing underway in Oxford trial that could see results by ‘mid-August’

'If we can see evidence of a strong immune response by the middle or the end of May, then I think the game is on', government task force member says

Light at the end of the tunnel?

          :heehee::loll::roflol:

Naaah, it's all done and dusted and most people in the UK who, while trying to deal with the Lock Down, the loss of the equivalent of a small Village a day of people every day for the last nearly fortnight, are keeping, at the back of their minds, that there is a better future ahead.

Just watching the update on the BBC, its about time the silly journalists were sorted out, they are all jumping on the PPE bandwagon and point scoring, "can you assure all NHS workers that they will get PPE and not catch CV"?

The correct answer to that is NO, but they cant say that.

I assume, (not), we are not really trying to get PPE for the NHS,... if you follow some of the questions from these idiots.
I think we have all seen that person in hospital who puts on a pair of gloves, swill round a basin and then throws them in the bin, the throw away society is still there.
where is Greta when you need her?

Also, why do we keep seeing that stupid graph which seems like its a competition between countries? I'm guess its because the Eurovision song contest has been cancelled.

Because pete, you would be asking why no one is telling us what is happening elsewhere.

Well yes, but the way they show it, it seems like a competition , its getting like, "Whos had the most deaths today, time folks".
Well we are doing much better than the USA, but lagging behind Germany.

And we are not comparing like for like anyway, different populations etc.
Oh and we are not bothering to count some, but we are counting some that died of other things but had similar symptoms.

Most of the time I cant see where we are anyway, its kind of a blur similarly with the one they show of the different regions of Britain.

Only if they strike extremely lucky ...

I just looked on the Independent and it says (I can read it but I'm blocked so I can't Copy & Paste it, so paraphrasing: ) "Professor Gilbert (Oxford Uni vaccine team leader) said no one can be sure if a vaccine is possible and no guarantee that the tests will be successful". An envoy from the WHO said much the same thing and "Some viruses are very very difficult when it comes to vaccine development. For the foreseeable future we are going to have to find ways to go about our lives with this virus as a constant threat"

I Googled "what percentage of virus vaccine trials are successful". one of the results was a statistical analysis of all recent Vaccine trials over a 10 year period. "The average vaccine, taken from the preclinical phase, requires a development timeline of 10.71 years and has a market entry probability of 6%"

Clearly they are going to beat that average timeline, as plenty of government will and assistance, but there is no magic bullet to increasing the success rate. They may well be starting from a better place, but the odds will still be poor

Good job you don't feel strongly about it Pete :heehee:

Ethnicity mix will be different, country-to-country, too. Far too many variables to make comparison straightforward. I think of possible value is how long it took other countries to peak and then subside, and compare that against our curve and thereby predict length of time of lockdown, but I think that's about all we can extrapolate. But that won't sell papers ...

I will be interested to see how Wuhan gets on, coming out of lockdown. We have the benefit that they are weeks ahead of us on that experiment

Yeah, but you cant believe what goes on there either, didn't they recently up their death toll by 50%.

Indeed. But there is some news that we could react to. "No news" will be useless of course, but people getting re-infected, grim as that would be - and assuming we hear about it - would be helpful to know.

Well yes, as I say, no stats seem to be particully worthwhile, but to up your figures three months down the line by 50% seems a bit dodgy.

I don't trust a single word that comes from China regarding COVID-19....
apparently Beijing and Shanghai are COVID free and their statistics regarding who has it/had it are implausible. Is there any truth in the accusation that they invented it, developed a vaccine for themselves and are watching the first world collapse and possibly die?
                          Or is this propaganda?

As with all this, some truth some propaganda, some total lies.
Read, listen and make you own mind up, don't believe any of it, but don't dismiss all of it.
