I hope skilled tradesmen like yourself @pete will be allowed back. It would be no different to supermarket workers who have to work in close proximity. Obviously it is a risk for you but until testing becomes widely available what choice is there, people need to earn a wage to feed themselves.

School children are not so much a problem for themselves as youngsters are only likely to get mild symptoms at worse (I know there will be exceptions I am speaking generally) The issue is with parents dropping off and picking up, they will have to be queued. Also teachers will have to be given PPE I guess.

Then about a third of us office based people can continue working from home and social distancing.

I'm agreeing with @Mike Allen , the quietness is an unexpected bonus. Last Friday night I was sitting in the garden and whereas I'd usually hear cars, people going for their weekend nights out, slamming doors, music, I heard the blackbird serenading. :)

It must also be the lack of the constant background hum of cars and the city life that allows the wildlife to become braver. They can hear an approaching danger better.

Last night we saw not just The Deer we saw before, but the full family with a male with horns, two females and a calf with chopstick legs and teddybear ears :) And this is 10 mins metro journey from Newcastle city centre, between Gosforth race court and a golf club.

Hi @Sheal , it's only certain B&Q's that are re-opening. They plan to open more over the next few weeks if it goes well.

Ours opened today @KFF, there was a huge queue outside. I spent ages queuing to get into B&M today, they didn't close and there's been no restrictions on what we can buy there. However, my time was wasted because they didn't have what I wanted. The Range has remained open too.

Most of the large stores have stayed open here, only the small shops have closed. The chip shops have reopened I noticed.

We have a lot fewer birds around than normal. They must have moved to the towns.
