God, there are quite a few in this area that need shooting.

Hubby and myself are staying in lockdown and see what happens to the rest in the next few weeks.

You'll see there will be panic buying again, luckily we have a lot of tins and packets of things already stored for Brexit but i don't want to go into that.

No mention about garden centres opening. Today we didn't have a press conference to see the slides on how everything is going, haven't seen the deaths, transport and infection graphs.

They all said what they would be doing before Boris made tonights announcement, what Boris said only seems to apply to England.

As I said earlier, go back to work, because the money has run out.
But how people who rely on public transport are going to do that is a complete mystery to me.

          Oh yeah, go by bike.

Yeah on yer bloody bike mate.

It is all very vague isn't it? Go back to work, but avoid public transport to get there - unless you work in a shop as they are not opening for another three weeks. What about hairdressers and barbers? What about chiropractors and chiropodists? What about garden centres? People will be allowed out more from Wednesday - - how much more, and who? I had a text from the government this morning telling me to keep a bag packed in case I was taken into hospital and I have a letter telling me to stay at home for 12 weeks from 17th April, so which is it Boris??

Much as I would like to offer support to him in a very difficult situation, this is becoming a bit of a shambles to be honest - one scientific adviser completely ignoring the rules so he could get his leg over, Scotland's chief medical officer doing the same to have a wee weekend away, the BBC proudly showing a crowded street with no social distancing (for VE Day), buying gowns from a company in Turkey that had never made medical gowns in its extremely short history, duff ventilators and tests bought from China, and now this utterly ambiguous speech from Boris saying that people should return to work?

It's both, the bag ready is just in case and the 12 weeks at home is the lockdown.

Its not though is it - not if those who can go back to work, go back to work? If Mrs C returns to work (ie, her furlough ends), then she is in contact with God only knows how many other people. If I can't leave the house, then she has to take public transport to get to work, increasing the risk even more. Oh, and if you happen to work in a shop (other than a chemist, food shop, or B&Q) or a bar, hotel, cinema etc then you can't return to work. And not a squeak about visiting friends or family - - so it is OK for you to go to work, see your workmates and your boss, but not to go and see your mum, sister or brother??

If we go back to work we wont be costing the country any money, ( furlough), so that is ok.

If you go and visit family it wont save the country any money so don't do it.

                Simple.

I saw a bus, maybe it was a train with stickers on the seats saying leave this seat vacant to allow social distancing.:biggrin::biggrin:

What planet are these people on?
If Boris says go back to work there will be standing room only on most transport in cities.
I think he's lost the plot.

Sorry @KFF I didn't deliberately ignore you, I missed your post. For the record, I am not making these jokes, I am merely sharing them, and they are just that - jokes. Richard Branson hasn't sold Necker Island as far as I am aware, but he did offer it as collateral against finance for his airline business; it is all a bit ambiguous, however, as he only owns a share in the airline, with other airlines and organisations from other countries also owning shares. It seems as though the airline industry is very much like the car industry (and probably a lot of other industries too), where they all seem to own chunks of each other, lease their property and vehicles etc and when it all boils down to it, nobody owns anything.

It is all smoke and mirrors, shuffling money about and making money out of selling stuff that doesn't really exist, and making a fortune in the process - nice work if you can get it, but please forgive me if my heart doesn't bleed for Richard Branson.

However, I shall curtail the jokes lest they offend any further and shall consider which forums are appropriate for humour.

Public transport service level provision will be increasing in the coming weeks, but it will not simply return to normal as of tomorrow morning or even from Wednesday, of that I can assure you. It will take at least three weeks, if not more, for it to ramp up - this is not least because a lot of transport workers have only recently been furloughed and the rules of the furlough state that it has to be a minimum of three weeks.

I think that any party in power would have a very difficult job, not really knowing what is best, damn if they do and damn if they don't.

I'm lucky that I'm retired and don't have to make the decision on whether to travel on public transport or not to work......I do feel for the people who have to make this decision.

Please try and stay safe folks.

I have been stuck in doors now since the end of January. Begining to climb the walls now. OK I have my garden and GH and have for some time now been fighting hard to re-establish my love and interest for same. I still spend a great deal of time studying etc, but have reached to point.......is it all worth it? However life is sweet and valoable. Had I been asked. My reply would have been. Err on the side of caution. Wait a bit longer. I can see how much my family are worried. IMO, many people are going to be confused plus many of course will chance their arm. Better to be late in this world rather than years early for the next.

Nothing has changed for me; I am immunosuppressed so have not been offisland or outside the perimeters of my home for nearly two years or seen anyone face to face at close quarters. The alternative? I am headed for 80 and desire more years. And losing someone close to covid-19 sharpens the importance.
I actually love it. With increasingly severe M.E/CFS and old age my energies are slender and I need to scrimp and save them. Very early, at first light, I amble down the oceanside lanes in peace with the cats. And am in touch with folk who matter to me. And my supply lines were set up long since. Ireland looks after its old folk and the volunteers are stars. Small pleasures mean so much more. I knit, watch youtube, garden as I am able. Potter. Just now working " ear savers" for health care workers wearing masks long term to stop their ears getting sore. We are faring better over here as the authorities handled it well from the outset. My home land over there aches at my heart. I think some folk try too hard to fill the days? Learning to "stand and stare"? My problem is not enough strength for what I would love to do.. makes everything precious. And I am writing a well illustrated weblog... islandanchorhold.blogspot.com
