And that was the intention. Nothing will eliminate this plague any more than we can eliminate any other major disease, It is all about tactics. Stopping it from totally overwhelming and destroying, Have a look at some African countries?
And they have ebola along with this.

Maybe the most cogent example is foot and mouth disease? The only weapon we have is mass extermination of livestock.

The govts have done well and followed the most expert and skilled advice we have. And are watching reemergence like the proverbial hawks .

Suppressing is the way to go - gives us time to get a treatment/vaccine - then we can eliminate it as a threat. Covid-19 is here to stay unfortunately.

Yes it is but you can't stay in lockdown for the next two years, 5 yes,10yrs, you have to come out at some point.
I'm sure it will get reimposed , at some time and in some places .
The whole point is it isn't going away, I agree, so expect numbers to rise again.

        Is that a suggestion

Not 100% sure but I think the mass culling of livestock is a political thing.
        Similar to TB in cows.

Just a little light relief. On the radio a man tweeted, "I hope the pubs are open on Saturday so I can get back to drinking twice a week rather that seven times a week"

Didn't mean to sound harsh FC...and you still are one of my knights in shining armour, and a lovely person.......friends??

I do agree with some of what you say, so let's beg to differ.
I honestly think there is no right or wrong way to react....the fact is we are all running scared into unknown territory and as yet do not know the best way handle this ever evolving phenomenon called Covid 19

Heads should roll over that but will not. Here we have folk dying because they cannot get treatment for eg cancer urgently.

Another side effect of the virus.

But we get cases like this every year here. Old folk found dead in one case three months after the death. Nothing to do with the virus. Always makes me sad and angry. I want to yell WHERE ARE THE NEIGHBOURS? One old man was on medication from his GP; why was it not noticed that he had not been in? Folk said well he was a loner... A few years ago a couple burned to death in a remote farmhouse; were not found for many months. I notice these things as I am totally alone and favour isolated places. But my faith family in Canada keep watch and if I don't call for three days they have a number to call locally. It was total chaos here when covid hit. Th authorities running round like headless chickens. So easy for a single old person to slip through the net. Maybe we all and each need to keep a better eye on our neighbours, without being seen to do it. We rely too much on officials? I can go 2 weeks here without a soul seeing me in summer ( no smoke) .

But it is not flu. And it has some very nasty characteristics like the ability to mutate. One study found 40 different mutations . An unknown enemy

And maybe look at the actual numbers dying daily not an impersonal percentage? They are scary. And not diminishing. And worse to come as we have no cure or treatment so our only defence has been lockdown .

Very true. Just read that HGV and car traffic is back to pre lockdown levels - not public transport though.

The world is looking at Oxford at the moment - in a Government briefing the Oxford brainiac reckons we will have a vaccine by Autumn - let's pray to God she is right - the situation is desperate in South America and Asia. AstraZeneka has signed agreements to produce the vaccine for countries all over the world - and at cost for the poorer countries.

Well, just a thought, flu mutates every year, so every year they have to come up with a new vaccine.
So bearing in mind what @Islander77 is saying, (40 different mutations), I'm wondering where this leaves the vaccine that @clanless is referring to.

Are we being kept in the dark and being fed bull ****.

No, we need explanations, we need to know the truth from the fiction.
                  Too much fiction out there.

@pete I couldnt agree more with that statement. Even looking at various posts on this thread, and with no offence of any kind meant to anyone, its obvious that some are listening/reading fiction about the virus and believing it.

With every day that passes, I have more and more questions that nobody seems to be able to answer.

Watching the Chief Waffler at the moment.:)
Local lockdowns wont work unless you do what china does, roadblocks and nobody goes in or out.
                      Shoot on sight.

Otherwise everyone will just go to the next town that is not in lockdown.:dunno:
