I know how many police cars we have in our village here...none. On the other hand, as its a rural community, we do have plenty hunting rifles, spare ground and excavators...:biggrin:

It is disappointing the UK has excluded mainland Portugal from the "air bridge"" but pleased Azores and Madeira were granted permission.

I feel sad for the businesses that will suffer, but not necessarily the hotels who cater to the Brit hooligans that cause chaos here each year.

I am happy and feel safe here.

Haven't been to a bank for over 20 years! Cheques get paid in through the village post office. :blue thumb:

Well hopefully, now that distancing has come down to 1 mtr plus, from 2 mtrs we should see shorter queues ;)

I assume 1mtr plus means if you are wearing a mask you can stand closer to the person in front than if you are not.

I've already paid my council tax plus the extra for the police.

Our village used to have two police houses, which also doubled as the police station (as did the nearest small town to us). No resident police any more. In the nearest town the site if the two police houses now has six terraced dwellings. The ones in the village have been up for sale for about ten years. I think they haven't sold because of the hooligans in the church next door  :heehee:. Nobody seems to want a large building looming over them. :)

The nearest town with police is only six miles away but if we need to call the police we have to call them in the town 16 miles away because of different jurisdictional areas.

i didn't check the pubs in the village last night to see whether there were unruly mobs there.

It's not just villages that lose police stations. The local one that was at the Kent police headquarters was closed down some years ago. The nearest now is in the town centre.
And we have had stabbings and a couple of murders around here in the last few years.

Our 'manned' police station closed a couple of years ago.. although we do have the main fire, police and rescue headquarters for the county just down the road...it's not the same as there is no public access. The nearest normal police station in a few miles away....and that is now temporarily closed!!! I can't even remember when I last saw a police officer come to think it!!

I like a drink as much as the next guy, but this is just ridiculous - 'Crystal clear' drunk people will not keep distance

We may as well not have bothered locking this country down, we may as well just all go back to normal and take our chances, as it seems pretty futile to continue shielding etc with all this going on.

Was going to do a bit of reconnaissance shopping at Morrisons tomorrow. Just found out that a member of staff at this particular store tested positive for coronvirus last week - so who knows whether the virus is still there lurking on a hard surface somewhere - a shopping trolley handle perhaps. I'm not going now.

The shopping centre close to Morrisons was heaving apparently.

@clanless - if you have Amazon Prime, you may well be able to do a Prime Now order for Morrisons stuff; we tried it for the first time last night, and the stuff was delivered today with no issues at all.

Is plaster the new toilet roll? Lockdown DIY binge stretches UK supplies

Discovered this is still an issue when working on my daughter's house after removing the hardboard understair soffit to do a proper job with plasterboard and skim, then found a load of hollow plaster in a bedroom after stripping wallpaper, but luckily didn't hack the lot off to replaster the whole wall as I'd already discovered the shortage.

If this is anything like breadflour, it'll be Xmas before I can finish plastering.
