Interesting. I read the linked article and also looked at the one about China telling the UK to butt out. China has warned their citizens to not come to Canada as apparently we are a violent bunch. I think that is okay. The viruse didn't walk across the ocean, it was flown here so a pause in travellers coming in is good. I really bet a smile from the immature media releases. It always sounds like playground tactics. :rolleyespink:

We've still got 11 cases in my town of 200k people but we're still locked down tighter than over there. Yes, we still have young people disobeying the rules but for the most part, everyone is calmly going about their business.

In my town we had a drunk dragged out the river by emergency services.
His mates then dared him to jump in again, so the idiot did it.
Why they dragged him out a second time is beyond me?

It has begun ... Sunday night the police had to disperse a crowd of +/- 300 Dutch students crowding two bars in Albufeira (a holiday town 30 minutes from us) cramming themselves together without wearing masks (a requirement here). The one bar tender said he would not re-open. It was stated 2,000 Dutch arrived yesterday! :yikes: Algarve only had one case yesterday.

It was also reported that a student party up North is being tested as a French girl has tested positive and an illegal house party in Central has been dispersed which had been rented by a French person and the owner plans to prosecute.

        Close the borders please! :love30:

I was just reading about them and wondering how long before they reopen and then how long before they close again, complicated by furloughing staff is for 3 weeks minimum.

I was quite surprised by how calm and well run the pub I went to over the weekend was. We had no intention of going to a pub as it seems like the worst idea during a pandemic, but on the way back from a long walk around parks and nature reserves we spotted one with a near empty beer garden (2 groups of about 3/4 people at opposite ends of the garden).

We went to the front to see how it all worked: ideally, we should have booked in advance but they asked us to give names and phone numbers so they could alert us if any cases of COVID were reported. Before going in we had to download an app - just the local pub's app, nothing fancy. We were made to wash our hands and escorted to a table in the garden by a server in full mask, gloves and visor. Strict instructions not to leave the table apart from loo visits, and not to approach others. Drinks were ordered and paid for via the app, and delivered to the end of our table so we/the server did not get too close.

It was a bit odd, and I honestly don't see how a drunk could manage all the admin! But for a quick shandy and bag of crisps at the end of a long afternoon walk it felt very safe and incredibly well managed, and just a nice slice of near-normality.

I don't think a smaller venue would be able to manage it so well, and we were there in the afternoon so no drunk customers unable to follow rules - perhaps a different story later in the day. And I should add that we're in our 30s, no underlying health issues, working from home and not living with/intending to visit anybody in a vulnerable category so probably have a different approach to risk than a carer or vulnerable person.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share an unexpectedly good experience of an accidental pub visit for anyone wondering whether it is a safe option for them - it's not all wild hordes in Soho!

You CAN come here ... it is just not recommended by "those who must be obeyed" you just have to quarantine when you return. Same for Madeira and the Azores who are on the approved list!

Well yes, we can actually go pretty much anywhere, but Portugal was not on the list of places we could go without quarantine when they announced it.
I'm just thinking you are glad bearing in mind what tourists get up to.

These are shutting their doors because people are not following the rules and one had the police there to stop fights
