I personally hate wearing a mask as i feel i cant breath properly. In Sweden they have not imposed anything, right? After a disastrous time, is the situation getting better?

It's a bit better, but the infection is going up a bit but not like before. Have to wait what it will be like in the winter when we have the flu to deal with, I'm still keeping my distance even though some people have forgotten.
I don't like wearing the mask either.

It's a marketing ploy, get social media chatting and bingo - more sales.

I would guess, but don't know, that if people continue to distance, wear masks when in shops etc. the incidence of winter flu may come down. We shan't know until next Spring. :noidea:

The annual incidence of deaths from flu varies greatly so it may not be much to go on. Most deaths occur in the over 65's. In 2017/18 there were almost 20,000 and in 2018/19 there were nearly 3,000. Average annual figures are around 10,000.

Wearing masks and social distancing is definitely having a positive effect for those people that suffer from Asthma etc, talking to a friend whose hubby has chest problems and really suffers just with a cold. This is the first summer where he hasn't needed any antibiotics, usually he has a couple of bouts at least.

We had a couple of 90 year old friends round yesterday and he suffers with COPD. Since distancing he hasn't had a bout of it. :blue thumb: He still goes to the supermarket but is careful and wears a mask.

There is one slight issue that they have however - their food is awful.

From today's Safe Communities report ...

"With Portugal on the travel corridor we are already seeing a large increase in flights and more arrivals here in the Algarve. This is not only essential for the economy but will bring together many families and friends which Covid-19 and it effects have kept apart.

At the time of writing this article, there are around 200 active cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve, with four in hospital and none in ICU. This is out of a population of around 450,000 plus reportedly double that of tourists – the figures speak for themselves!"

I heard from my long-time friend (met in College in 1963) in Tennessee this morning. Their eldest son (age 40, recently divorced and back living with his parents) is a lawyer in Nashville and his girlfriend told him she had CV19 :rolleyespink: and the Courthouse closed due to an infection. He wasn't feeling well, so picked up his two daughters, then his parents and went to Florida for the last week in July. He was ill the whole time and upon arrival home my friend (age 75) became terribly ill. She phoned her GP who told her to take Tylenol (Paracetamol) and an Expectorant! I shall have to think carefully how I will respond regarding Nicholas her son! At least it wasn't the son Victor named after me!

I was stood in line outside the bank this morning, there was only 3 of us but as things are these days only one person allowed in at a time.An elderly chap in front of me turned around and said "Who'd have thought it,one time o' day if you went into a Bank wearing a mask you'd come out in handcuffs Now you come out wearing 'em of you DON'T wear a mask".I've not heard that one before but as sad as it sounds it made my day.:heehee:

I'm back working this week and next, I was asked to help out due to the fact that one of the young joiners went out last weekend and picked up a mate and his girlfriend in his car.

Apparently she had had a test and was positive, but she didn't tell any of the others until the end of the evening.

I guess she didn't want to miss out on the night out.

Anyway, the rest of them now are having to isolate for two weeks.
