Been cutting my hair with clippers (beard with scissors) myself for decades and luckily had some relatively new ones before lockdown when they all sold out. Getting myself some more as decent ones are just becoming available again.

Somebody mentioned something to Mrs Scrungee about an important forthcoming government announcement on Tuesday, anybody know what it's about?

EDIT: "Boris Johnson is expected to make an announcement on the next steps to bring the virus down at a press conference on Tuesday"

I'm buying 2 large polythene storage boxes to live in the garage. Each to house a 16kg sack of flour. a) Canadian white and b) Norfolk Malted Crunch.
Couldn't bear the though of not being able to make my own bread....

Lets get a grip can we, the government are now threatening people.
And saying people should grass on their neighbours.

If I saw a rave going on, bit like those in certain parts that you see on the news I'd report it.
But then as we know the police wont be interested because its best to stand back and watch rather than get involved, might upset certain parts of the community.

But if my neighbours had 7 people round instead of 6, now there would be a massive problem and likely to get them fined.:roflol:

We had a lady in a street we lived in years ago who complained about teenagers making noise outside her house.
            The police moved them on..
Job done she thought, until a house brick came through her lounge window the following night.
She had it replaced and not long after another brick came through. I'd let the neighbours get on with it, and just observe the best measures i can for my own family.

"Some will draw the short straw." I know this probably isn't your intention Jenny, but it is that statement that sticks out of your otherwise "C'est la vie"-esque post, which you no doubt intend to come over as poetic. No, I cannot accept that a civilised society will just accept that "some will draw the short straw." I won't be grassing on my neighbours, and I don't support all aspects of the government's approach, but I believe, far from your "caution to the wind" our attitude should be to try and do everything possible to restrict the virus' reach, for the sake of the most vulnerable. If that means we have to curtail some of our day to day activities then that's fine by me, it is a short term compromise for the greater, long term good. The earlier restrictions proved that the virus can be held at bay, and the rise in cases has happened only since we started prematurely resuming our old activities. So although I'm sure its helpful for you, I can't share this easygoing attitude, not while people like my 79-yr old mum is at continued high risk, and people I know are still having to shield and stay indoors. We all have a responsibility to do everything we can - and by abiding more rigidly by the latest restrictions we actually increase the chances of averting full lockdown.

                      Prematurely resuming our old activities.
Presumably you mean people going back to work and kids going back to school.
At what stage would it be right then to resume such things?
Because a lockdown is not going to eradicate the problem.
It's just a delaying tactic, that kind of works, but only up to a point.

As I'm now an older person I'm quite capable and happy staying home, drinking beer, occasional scotch and enjoying the garden.
But when I was in my twenties I would have been pretty fed up. You'd work all week and be looking forward to getting into Tiffany's and suchlike pubs n clubs on a Friday and Saturday night.
I can't argue with Simon on this because he's right, but I've got a bit of sympathy for the youngsters cos I was young once.
They are being asked to put their lives on hold and whilst they behaved well generally through the Spring and Summer, I'd guess they've just about had enough.
They'll have little choice to stay in with everything shut down, but you can't expect them to be happy about it.

@SimonZ you obviously read Jenny's post differently from the way that I did. To me she didn't in the least seem to be advocating flouting the rules but to be saying make the most of what you have whilst you're here.

I know that she doesn't flout the rules, and neither do we, but to both of us your mum is young! :old: :) We don't know how much longer we have, hopefully a long time, but are working at enjoying ourselves as much as possible within the rules.
