Yes I have said this before, it is a balancing act between keeping the economy going and letting some people die.

Lockdown is the only thing that works. Without it in a few days cases will double, then double again etc. That 0.11% will become an unacceptable number.

Well, our government is making no sense at all. My province has said in the hot spots (Ottawa, Toronto and one other region) that indoor restaurant dining is now banned again and only celebrate Thanksgiving with those in your home. BUT the Feds have said, it's okay to bring in relatives from overseas for a visit and indeed, it turns, out they never really stopped international flights from coming in!

Reminds me of the movie "The Gods MUst be Crazy" ! :rolleyespink:

Sweden didn't lockdown - their figures are better than ours?

To be honest I dont think Sweden is a fair comparison, not that I know much about there, but I think things might be very different there regarding population and lifestyle.

But it does make you wonder.

Population density is admittedly a lot less than it is here, so that could well be a factor. It just bugs me that one minute we know very little about this virus and then the next minute we are expert enough to say that lockdowns are the only way or that it is masks that make the difference etc etc.

If this is just the start of winter, and all the things that are going on, it makes you wonder how many people will be coming out the other side, 7 months of this s'hi't , cold dark and wet, and the combination is likely to push far more people over the edge that the first load of s'hi't we had when the weather we good.

But on the other hand @pete it could have the opposite effect. More people stay at home during the winter months and only venture out for necessities. I also think we're going to have a long, cold winter. So if snow keeps us tucked away in our warm dry homes, then this decreases the chance of catching Covid. In effect it will be a self imposed lockdown.

Ah, you want to be out on the tiles with all the youngsters then?

I'm happy to be at home and lockdown didn't bother me at all. It's given me a chance to spend more time working in the garden. :)

I just can't see anything resembling that happening. A lockdown like the one we had in spring/summer would appear to be political suicide, and a 6-month stretch almost impossible to imagine. Rightly or wrongly, all the language seems to suggest more staggered, targeted, shorter local restrictions. But if we were to be "locked down," presumably going out walking will still be ok. During this year's lockdown going out for a walk was still ok, and I used that time to explore more widely than I had done for some time. Hopefully you will have plenty of opportunity to do so over the winter.

All in all. I am of the mind that this Covid-19 will be with us for longer than perhaps we dare to imagine. Looking back over history. Records show many epidmic, pandemics and the like. What we generally call the Flu-influenza, might this be the lasting effects of the Spanish Flu? Then the Black Death as it was called. More recent. Sars, and Ebola. To a degree these have all been somewhat confined to say , certain areas.

This outbreak knows no boundaries. It is univresally spread. So perhaps stretching the imagination to, Sci Fi. Some space craft sent up to be able to spray planet earth.. Joke?
Then there is Biblical prophesy. It is strange how sci fi etc can at times become a reality.

Remember the comic strips. Talking to your wrist watch. Devices enabling mobile communication. Present time. PPE. Take this to Sci-Fi. Why can't the genral public get dressed up in some form of PPE. Get out and about, rather than be in lockdown. Get the country back to work. All this government bailing out. Maggie Thatcher once said. We can't go on printing money.

OK. Boyhood dreams by an oldie. But something has got to happen, and sooner rather than later.
