Stating the obvious, it's not good to be isolated from family and friends so I agree with @pete that 6 months in the winter months will be much worse than the last lockdown. No sitting out in the sunshine with a glass or two of wine. Zoom and other technologies help a little but there's nothing like face to face contact. We help pick up our grandkids after school but because of outbreaks within their classes we have to stay away. I'm missing them already and it's only been a week. The gloomy weather brings on SAD so it will be a struggle and I can see many people suffering long term mental issues not helped by an overstretched NHS.

Well, if the forecast trajectory continues, I will be back in jail within a few weeks and that is likely to last six months at least, so by March I am likely to be a blubbering wreck.

Well I'm not one to be going out much and I certainly won't be staying indoors even if they do try a lockdown.
I just find normal day to day activities are a PITA.
Queuing outside shops just to buy the smallest item.
        Messing around with masks.
People jumping out the way if you get too close.
And getting hearded about following arrows.
        Standing behind lines
And all the other crazy stuff that is going on.

Do what I do ... don't go to the shops or anywhere there are people unless it is absolutely necessary. I still think the best thing for you is to get a companion ... dog! There is one out there waiting for you ... and your knees!
          ;)

My outing this week is going to a garden center tomorrow to see what I can find.

            Well lookie here.....

            Ej_r19LWoAE4yOa.jpg

Public Health England's own data - and as that is not overly clear, here is the important bit:

            Zoom.jpg

Whilst care homes outstripped others in week 37, it is clear to see that the bulk of cases in recent weeks is in Educational Settings... whodathunkit?

Its depressing, and has hit a lot of people hard. I can understand why they're doing it but I don't think the government wish to continue it longer term. People are already saying they would rather risk covid than persist with this unnatural going on, which for many is more existing than living. As you know, I've been more supportive of some of the measures than you - albeit reluctantly, as a lesser-of-two-evils - but that doesn't stop me resenting every single moment of them. I also work with the public, and can report that these measures are increasingly unpopular across social groups, although most are resigned to following them for the foreseeable future. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just repeating what I (often) hear.

                    There's currently about 15,000 new cases every day in the UK [1] and 15,000 x 7 = 105,000 new cases a week.

The graphs you have displayed only show about 500 'incidents' a week in England (which had the vast majority of cases).

I suspect these graphs have been taken out of context and are only part of a much bigger picture.

@Scrungee - they are ARI cases only (Acute Respiratory Incident), so only the ones who are ill enough to require hospitalisation/medical intervention.

Have a look at the link in my post and you will find the rate of admission to hospital is running at 684/day, nearly 5,000/week, so those graphs showing 500/week hospital admissions still only show a small part of the total cases.

The longer this goes on the more I realise the statistics are pointless.
As usual you can view them any way you like and as for the way they collect them, its ridiculous.
None of them are even worth looking at IMO.

There's so much information available, that it allows people to pick and choose whatever they need to substantiate their ideologies/agendas.

True, but isn't it sad that there is so much mistrust in the data (and the government for that matter) that this is the case? Time was we would all quite happily accept the data as presented on the likes of the BBC, but there has been so many 'errors' or differing interpretations of things that there is zero trust left.
