"There are more people in hospital now than when the lockdown started" Boris said.
    Do I believe that:scratch:

@SimonZ - to be honest, I barely paid attention to Eastenders when it was on (Mrs C watched it, I had little to no interest), but sensed a 'vibe' from what I saw; a similar vibe to when they were banging on about the sugar tax, or when they had their week where they were fawning over wee Greta Thunberg..... everything they did, had to have a lesson or a message to it; hell, they even got shot of Andrew Neil because he is a right winger; oddly, since the new guy took over, they want him back.... funny though, because they have blown their foot off with that one as he will be their competition shortly.

Media and entertainment is generally left leaning - - not all of it, but most of it in my opinion and whilst I can fully accept that staunch remainers may see things differently, my view is not just from a leave/remain standpoint - it is everything to do with the BBC in recent years.

If, when, I get the chance to sit and watch something, I want entertainment - if I want politics, I will watch a politics program or head online. There is next to zero on the BBC that is worth watching now. I sincerely hope that a bit of balance is restored - if the BBC went back to the sort of level it was say five or seven years ago, I would be quite happy to pay for it. As it stands, it is on borrowed time in my house as I will move us to be fully streaming and kick Sky into touch as well as soon as others in the house adjust.

If you do, I am sending an ambulance to take you to the funny farm to get your bumps felt. I listened to the announcement in parliament earlier on, and most of what Boris came out with was utter tosh and in fact even the earlier briefing by the scientists seemed quite clearly to me to be an attempt to justify what they were doing by blinding people with data. They are utterly ignorant that there may be another way.

I see riots coming on before winter is out.

I think the PC brigade have to take some of the blame for the BBC leanings.

Absolutely - comedy in general has taken a nosedive as folks are scared to say or do anything lest they cause offence somewhere.

That I can agree with; its certainly what has happened in my own sphere of the arts. "Cancel Culture" has taken hold, and there is definitely a lot of bigotry. My own status in the world of poetry has become virtually that of a non-person due to my rejection of Corbyn's Labour. I'm just not sure I think this has taken hold of the BBC, though.

In which case it was probably an ill-advised example. I'm afraid your interpretation was very wide of the mark and doesn't do your overall argument any favours

Which is where websites like Uncancelled come in! I'd direct you to my page on there but hesitate to say that the first piece I wrote for it was entitled "In Defence of the BBC"...

I am greatly looking forward to watching his new channel. Neil is one of the heavyweights of British broadcasting and his departure a terrible loss for the BBC. If it does cease to exist, this will be looked back on in years to come as one of the major catalysts and final nails in the coffin.
I don't support the BBC to the exclusion of other broadcasters - I want a plurality of channels and networks to choose from, and I welcome the competition new initiatives like his will bring.

Yes, but you can swear, walk about frantically and shout and the audience appear to love it.
If I knew what it was they were on i'd get some myself.

Agreed, but it was part of a wider picture, and to be fair you did ask for examples....

Oh, I don't hate the BBC as such - I just really dislike what it has become, and detest the fact that we do not have the choice whether to choose it's services or not.

It took me a very long time to warm to him, I have to be honest, but yes he is hugely talented at what he does and whilst he is a right winger, he is able to be unbiased in his work - - he will happily grill the feet off a Tory just as he would a Labour bod.

Personally, I would rather see the BBC turn things around and get back to being the broad church that they always were; sure, I didn't like everything they did, but I liked some of it - and that is the point. There is so much mainstream media now that just does not connect with the audience, and there are great swathes of the country feeling unrepresented by those on their screens.

That's my fear over the defund/abolish argument some put forward. Its going through a particular phase right now, and that can change again in time. But lose it and its gone forever- the bits we like, and the bits we don't. And we would never get it back.
