One thing I don't understand is why anyone is surprised we are where we are, at this time of year. Early on in the pandemic it was predicted autumn would be a high point for infections, given that it is a respiratory virus. The only reasons numbers were kept down in spring was because we abided by various guidelines. There are pro's and con's to this, but in terms of keeping the rates down and preventing the NHS becoming overwhelmed, it worked. And yet, as early as June many people started saying the time had come to get "back to normal." Throughout late summer, I watched the acceleration of this return to "normality", coupled with a growing reluctance to abide by guidelines (and in many cases a proud bravado in breaking them) and a corresponding rise in infection numbers. Often when I pointed this out, and mentioned we were heading into autumn, and thus the key time for respiratory viruses, I was told by certain people that I was a "doomsayer," and reminded that more people die from flu or that untold numbers are knocked down by buses every day. When the second semi-lockdown was announced there was widespread disagreement that it needed to be done. But why? I'm not expecting people to like it, or disputing that there may have been better ways of facing the problem, but I've always struggled to understand why anyone disagrees that a respiratory virus is likely to rise in autumn, and that methods to keep it down will keep it down. In recent days I've even seen people posting unverified charts and graphs claiming we are not and never have been in a second wave.

I won't be having the vaccine. Not only because I don't trust it's lack of testing at this point, but because I'm intolerent to most medicine and the chances are it would make me quite ill.

Depending on the amount of the fine I'm not sure it will work. The Isle of Man is still jailing people for two weeks for breaking the two week isolation rule.

Currently in Tier 1 here in the Highlands and because of the scattered population Covid cases have remained low since the initial lock down. Which diverts me to another subject. Our dentists have been closed since March with no sign of them opening at the moment. The only patients that will be seen are those in great pain or have substantial bleeding. I've been in need of a dentist since the beginning of June. Will anyone see me - not a chance.

Are the dentists open in the rest of the country?

Ours has been open since June, I am surprised they haven't reopened in your neck of the woods.

Thanks John, are they fully treating patients? Before ours closed they weren't using drills etc. because of them needing air to function.

I had my regular 6 month checkup and hygienist session. Mrs JWK had a minor filling, so as far as I know they are back to normal. Hope you can find someone to sort your problem out soon.

I admit getting confused at times over all that is said about this Covid-19. IMO we have to accept this is killing people all around the world, not just us Brits.
The populus of course look to the governments to deal with it and the many problems it is causing. Governments in turn look to the scientist. Whoever we are, as individuals. We, each and everyone of us. We are all in the same boat. We are all having to suffer and learn as we go.

Regarding the vaccines available. So! the usual long drawn trials and testing periods haven't been covered. We are like passengers on a sinking ship. Perhaps we see floating rafts close by. Do we delay on grabbing one, because it's not the colour of our choice? Likewise, the vacines might not be to our liking or expectation, but it is giving us something of a chance, to prolong our lives a bit longer. In my own case. I'll be 81 next month. I have medical problems, but life to me is still sweet and valuable. I have no fear of dying. However I love what's left of my family, and I apreciate what it ill mean for them, if I popped off. So I would take the chance/gamble and accept whatever is on offer. I remember a former GP. I was being treated for duodenal ulcers, and was prescribed, Tagamet. This drug taken over extended periods can cause stomach cancer. His answer was. Let's get rid of the ulcers first. We can treat the cancer if need be later.

OK our government has made many mistakes. Bringing about lockdowns, never solved the problem. It was considered that children were not targets, so keep the schools open. A very dear friend of mine. Has a family member, a school child, who is at risk due to a blood disease. The child has been punished at school fo wearing a face mask all the time and protecting herself. It now transpires that there are only a very low number of her class mates, now without covid symptoms. So children may lose out a bit on their education. So. Extend the school period. Let's face it. Many kids wont get a job anyway, withh all those who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

My dentist is open, but they cancelled my checkup a month ago and gave me another one in March.
They did say if you get a problem and are in pain to give them a call.
