90 Year old hospital patient first to receive vaccine. Covid-19 vaccine: First person receives Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in UK It was supposed to be care home residents first. Good job the UK didnt sign up to the EU's vaccination strategy (whatever it will be when they get around to agreeing it) or the EU would have us on court for non compliance.

There's some of those round here.

Got a small scale 'artisan' gin distillery in the next village, but they don't do off sales.

They're where people go when the pubs are shut :ccheers: and are an essential lifeline for those who've been banned from their local pubs.

True, but I read that getting the vaccine to care homes is a challenge as it needs to be kept at minus 70C. Hospitals already have that facility. I guess they are working out how to do it for care homes.

Today is a Public Holiday and the last day of our latest five-day can't leave your own county, we had one last weekend as well for another Public Holiday. It is very quiet.

Our county runs from the sea to the mountains and our favourite restaurants are within our county ... but it is too cold to go out and about ... and there are no garden centers in our county!

With 100,000 being admitted to hospital every week with Covid-19, and nearly 10 million people furloughed, it's a bit late to start working out the details after the vaccine has been approved, delivered and is ready for use.

I think the NHS logistics guys ( and girls) will have the distribution worked out. The vaccine will keep for several days in a normal fridge. I thought it may be better to have a small team running the vaccine out to care homes, rather than bringing coach loads of over 80's into a hospital.

I struggle to see why care home residents that go virtually no where are top of the list.
Not being unkind, just don't get the thinking behind it.

I think is will be good for them @pete as they will be able to see and hug all their families again, and that is just one reason. I personally wouldn't like to see elderly people die in such a horrid way after living to a ripe old age.

Well yes I see that angle but they only catch it off infected people coming in.
So just think it's more important to vaccinate those likely to come in first and to keep testing those coming in.

Just wondering how many very elderly will actually be suitable to take it any way.

They still saying they don't know if you can pass it on, although you have been vaccinated ,to my thinking that would have been determined during the trials, if they we as extensive as they are telling us.

I think that information is just another bit of the non information we have been given all along. ;)

To be fair @pete It's not just the elderly getting the Vac many front line workers are too,I see exactly what you mean though:blue thumb:...

My old Mum isn't keen on the vac but she'll be there with her boots blacked as soon as she gets the call for everyone elses sake as well as her own..

From my own point of view ...not being able to get close to my Mother, standing on the door step for nearly a year ,seeing her trying to hide her tears when she knows what it's doing to me and many others is wearing very thin now.Although I pass it off and try to be as jolly as I can be ..it hurts... but onwards and upwards, the sooner we can all get back to some sort of normality the better.:dbgrtmb:

It's also because the residential homes are enclosed environments - people tend to stay inside - once the virus gets through the door it's very easily spread to other residents.

Hats off to Margaret Keenan - if a 91 year old grandmother is brave enough to take the vaccine - you'd have to be an absolute nut job to refuse vaccination IMHO.

What I can't find information on is whether these patients currently being vaccinated in hospitals will need to stay in them (as bed blockers?) for 3 weeks until they get their second dose, or whether special arrangements will need to be made for them to be tracked down and individually visited by somebody with vaccine in 3 weeks time if they are discharged before then.

This might be more controversial than when care home residents get vaccinated

I would be quite happy to pay £15 for a dose, if you know what I mean:oops:
