Considering all the panic buying that has already happened and the measures that supermarkets are taking I'm quite peeved that it's still so damned hard to get a small shop done! Wife has just gone out again to try and get some supplies in.

I got the email from the Sainsbury chief exec this morning and although they're doing 'stuff' they have no mention at all on their website!!

"Sainsbury's has now said customers over 70 and those with a disability will also have priority access to online delivery slots from Monday and the chain is also expanding its "click and collect" service.

Coupe added that as of Thursday, Sainsbury's will be closing its cafes and its meat, fish and pizza counters to free up freight capacity for essential products"

Dammit, shoppers will be stripping all the vegetarian stuff now, and if things get really desperate they'll even buy the vegan products.

Yes Tesco is closing early to stock up on shelves and hubby found out this morning about sainsbury's keeping a slot for the over 70s and disabled people to shop on Thursday early morning. Sainsbury's have trouble trying to keep up filling the shelves in ordinary times. But all the cereals have gone the frozen peas and sprouts, had to buy basmati rice instead of the easy cook. But they're trying to fill them with getting more staff to do it.

The schools are slowly closing because the teachers are becoming I'll, by Friday they probably will be closed all together.

My wife's a teacher; between her leaving work and getting home bojo made some announcement and all the staff took to their whatsapp group and have put the fear of cod in her! Talk of being closed for the rest of the school year plus summer hols which is approx 23 weeks!! At home. With the kids. All the time... :ouch1:

:heehee: Had to laugh Logan ... T'other half went to Aldi yesterday and had to buy normal rice rather than Basmati which we prefer. There was no bread, just papa secos (crusty rolls) so got a pack. They had the expensive toilet rolls but we don't need them, only buying what we need. They were only letting a certain number of people in at a time and were wearing gloves and masks.

Algarve only has 14 cases and Portugal only has 1 death at the moment. Keep safe and :fingers crossed: to all.

And the supermarkets are running out of beer :yikes:. Will be in even shorter supply if all the pubs shut.

Our pubs have been shut. Restaurants can only serve take away. None of our recreation centres are open, no gatherings of more than 50 allowed- guess there will be a few scaled down weddings...

Something interesting and good may come of all this. Perhaps once it is established that work flow for jobs that can be done from home can be done efficiently, more companies will allow people to work from home at least part of the time. Wouldn't that be a good thing for the environment and ease up public transit congestion?

A lot of our stores are starting the first hour shopping for seniors. I do have to go out today to pick up some groceries and pay one of the bills I can't pay online. And I don't mind doing that as I am getting a mixture of cabin fever and curiosity about the state of things out there.

Another fun thing that came out of this is yesterday when I took my friend to the hospital for their physio, I filled my van with petrol and it only cost me $41.50! This is a full sized dodge Caravan that usually costs $75 to fill - yippee!!

Rang our local supermarket and spoke to customer service lady which we know and she is going to hold two packs of bog rolls for us next week as we couldn't get any because of people panic buying she laffed when we said that we're on last roll and that miss jiff has that one and I have the news paper, but I said that we will only need one packet so if some one else is also having problems with getting paper then give to them as we could manage :):)

Well I went out to the local garden centre this morning. It was very very quiet so I managed to get myself two big bags of compost to keep me going. Also HAD to nip into Tescos on the way back to try and get something to make up for the cancellation of Mr Snorks big 40 bday celebration. I had to buy a betty crocker cake mix because there's no flour and eggs etc. I also decided to get a selection of cheese and chutneys etc - we will have to have a cheese and wine night instead and go in the hot tub. Tescos had plenty of wine (i got a bottle of sparkly english wine) but they hardly had any beer left.

My mum managed to get home from Tenerife last night and she is safe at home again with my 86yr old grandma. They're keeping themselves separate for a week or so just incase mum picked anything up in the airport. Such a relief to have her home. It really hit home at how hard I'm going to find it not being able to be with them or give them a hug - thank goodness for internet and phone.

We've had our second death today ... the President of Santander Bank Portugal who had recently returned from Italy. All his family are under watch now, Algarve's infected number is now 14, one a tourist from The Nederlands, absolutely none in Alentejo the province above us, most cases up North. Borders now closed (manned like in the old days). As we are Portuguese permanent residents we cannot leave ... not that we want or intend to.

T'other half went to a tiny (one room) village shop and got a large loaf of fresh baked sliced bread (we still have bakers in villages here) and some coffee which he couldn't get in Aldi yesterday. We have frozen 2/3 of the loaf.

Think there were only 2 other customers at Leighton Buzzard Homebase when I got another 360L of MPC, taking my total up to 1,080L, mainly for growing stuff in containers and polytunnel moved from plot to back home. Don't want to get caught out if complete lockdown comes into force and all my veg is away from home and innacessible.

Ha, ha, that brings back memories! I got my UK driving license there in 1978, taken in a Mini van. Failed first time for being "too relaxed" having driven in America for 12 years.
