Hampshire are up to 75 cases now and this is still the highest Local Authority number, followed by Southwark with 58.

We went fresh produce shopping this morning and took my eldest sister too. As she had more shopping to get we ended up doing the rounds!!! :yikes:

    Pure and utter bedlam!!!!

Asda had hardly anything, as my sister had to go there I decided to buy their own brand eyeshadow which I tend to wear daily and am now running low. You've guessed it almost no make up left on the shelves!!!!!
Shelves were stripped bare. Their rules were no more than 3 of the same item.

Tesco was similar with many empty shelves and a lot of possessed looking shoppers using their trolleys as a lethal barging weapon!!! At Tesco you were limited to only 2 of the same item. This is because it's only a Metro sized store, the bigger sized ones are 3.

Sainsburys was quite quiet compared to the other stores but likewise it too looked like Old Mother Hubbard's Pantry. I like to have a couple of tins of their Tomato and Basil soup put by for when I spend the day over at my Dad's...absolutely no soup or in fact any other tinned items in the aisle at all.

While I helped my sister with her shopping hubs drove to Lidl where we shop for our fresh produce, luckily we got all that we needed but he did have a look round and like everywhere else he saw lots of bare selves.

Apart from not being able to get the eyeshadow ( which wasn't really on my list :heehee:) we got all that we needed except for the Anti- bacterial final rinse laundry cleanser that I have always used. I tried all 4 stores but none was in stock, not too worried as I still have half a bottle but I will keep an eye open and perhaps but 2 if I see any.

Sis had a bit of a shock when the Sainsbury's checkout assistant reminded her about their early morning opening tomorrow for the over 70s.... she has another couple of years yet before getting there!!...:oopss:

Oh yes and I did take along a bag of disposable gloves to use , normally I wear ordinary thin ones for the trolley handles but have trouble using the keypad when paying . So today it was easier all round with the thin disposable ones.:dbgrtmb:

Good afternoon Email received to day:smile:

            Tescos

It is fair to say that we find ourselves in uncharted waters. COVID-19 is bringing a change to the UK and it’s clear that lots of things are going to have to shift around in order to help us cope.

At Tesco, we have been doing everything we can to keep business as usual, but we now have to accept it is not business as usual. In the last two weeks, we have seen significant and prolonged increases in demand across all of our stores and this is leading to shortages in some products for some customers.

Reacting to the latest government announcements, we have to plan on this situation being the new normal and we will do all that we can to make the food you want available, but we need your help.

In order to protect the core shopping essentials, we are going to implement some changes in our stores. The changes are designed to simplify what we do so that we can provide more of what people need in a clean and safe environment. We ask for your understanding and your support.

From Thursday 19 March we will start to implement the following changes:

            • To ensure more people have access to everyday essentials, we are introducing a storewide restriction of only 3 items per customer on every product line, and removing multi-buy promotions.
            • In order to allow Tesco colleagues to focus on stocking shelves, helping to provide the essential groceries you are looking for and to avoid waste, we will close all meat, fish, deli counters and salad bars.
            • To be able to ensure our stores are clean, that we can replenish stock, and allow our colleagues to rest, we will change our trading hours with all stores closing at 10pm.
            • To ensure we are doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection for both our customers and colleagues, we will be introducing some distancing measures at the checkout and, to make it swifter, invite customers who can, to pay by card.
            • To help free up slots for the more vulnerable, such as our elderly customers and those who are self-isolating, we are encouraging customers who shop online or choose Click+Collect for their grocery home shopping, to prioritise shopping in-store where possible.
            • To ensure our more vulnerable and elderly customers can shop in-store, we will prioritise one hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning between 9-10am (except in our Express stores) and ask that you respect this.

Tesco store colleagues can't work from home and a good number of them will need to respond to personal or family challenges connected with dealing with COVID-19. So we would please ask that you understand the challenging environment in which we are all working. If you do go in-store and want to say thank you, then I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

So, if you could help us by limiting demand of essential items and allowing us to focus on the core needs of our customers – we are confident that we can continue to feed the nation. We are delivering food daily to our stores, but this is a very challenging time and we will only get through this if we work together.

            Thank you for your support.

            Dave Lewis

It's interesting to hear about your experience of shopping today Upsy. I haven't been out this week and experienced the bedlam but my daughter said that there was a run on pasta. One of my grandchildren's school closed today and he was delighted. He's thirteen and loves nothing better than staying home in his pjs all day.
I noticed that all the clothes shops online have good sales but if we have nowhere to go to wear new outfits what's the point of buying. I bought new clothes and shoes and have dieted since January for our golden wedding anniversary River Danube cruise which should have taken place at the beginning of April. Disappointing but when people are dying that's a minor irritation.
I'm taking solace in my garden which is looking good with all the extra time spent out there.
              Stay safe everyone

No pasta here either @lolimac ,we bought some last week but my sister wanted some today. She couldn't find any rice either...not even the cheap stuff, fortunately we're OK as we buy a sack of Basmati from the big International Store in town as hubs uses it a lot in his recipes as he's from the Middle East. So we can give her some. :dbgrtmb:

Thankfully we do our really main shop one a month, it was just a fresh items top up today.

Got an email from the vets, obvious stuff like get someone else bring your pet if ill, but also making arrangements for waiting outside in car until vet's ready for your pet.

Breaking news - English schools to close on Friday. Hope that wont mean loads more behaviour like we saw earlier this week, school age kids running around in supermarkets touching all the food on display whilst their parents yacked on their phones ignoring them.

At Waitrose today there was one lonely tin of Sweetcorn and a few odd tins of Beans, the cupboard was certainly bare.

I totally blame all the supermarkets for not stopping people from buying more than what is needed.......These large stores were not in the beginning bothered about their customers not being able to but just the basic items.

I don't blame any of the Supermarket staff its just the higher management that are to blame.

In the absence of detailed locations of new cases, the school closures information on county council websites [1] has been a useful indicator of how close Coronovirus has been getting, but now no longer useful.

[1] Coded as 'staff shortages', 'deep cleaning', etc.

Mum went to stock up on frozen food from the local Iceland store - got a lift up with a friend. So no contact with people she had not already been in contact with in the last few days.

Between 9 and 11 I think - they were only letting in those over a certain age - there were queues and the shelves were emptied. But the people at Iceland aren't daft - just after 11 - a huge articulated lorry turned up to restock the shelves. Fair play to Iceland I say.

Information is very thin on the ground for some, take me and the wife.
I have asbestosis and can stay at home and avoid contact.
The wife has a heart problem and is type 2 diabetes, she is almost at retirement age and works in the local Tesco express, she also looks after the grandchildren 2 days a week so our daughter can work, her partner works away all week and some weekends.
So we can’t self isolate and one of us is at risk of customer contamination, we have sorted grand kids as my daughter doesn’t want either of us to be exposed, but even supermarkets with empty shelves have customers who could be carriers.

it’s said children are not as vulnerable to the virus, but has anyone investigated whether they can be carriers but not be infected.

rant over and I will be gardening more this year
