One of my nieces is a midwife and says there is a Covid baby boom, not a big surprise I guess. There were 5 soon to be mums admitted yesterday with Covid, they have a special ward for the Mums that test positive. Many don't even know they are infected.

I saw a recent programme that said that the French have always been vaccine sceptical and not just for the Covid one. Apparently over 40% of the population have traditionally been against vaccines. They didn't say why. :noidea:

Here in Belgium we have been in a similar level of lockdown as you are about to go into, since November. Only essential shops open. Very limited mixing (one cuddle-contact allowed per household), curfew enforced - 10pm/midnight until 6am, places of worship closed, etc and the rules were not relaxed for Christmas or New Year.
We are finally seeing the benefits of this strict regime, with the number of cases/hospitalisation/deaths finally lowering. We already know the target, the levels we have to achieve before things are relaxed, including daily hospitalisation figures down to 75. We have been warned it will probably be March before this happens....
At least we know that there’s not a relaxation bulge about to hit the figures!

Perhaps 'always' is exaggerating a bit, but certainly since the triple MMR vaccine fiasco, they've lost a lot of confidence in Government-promoted vaccination programmes. Add to that the native suspicion and, dare I say it, ignorance of the paysans and that would explain the high percentage.

                Lots more waffle just now.
He really is hard work to listen to.
Lots of JCBs mentioned so I'm guessing he's hoping to dig a hole to hide in.;)

So we now have one in 50 infected.
Again, flaky info. is that one in 50 infected now, or one in 50 has been infected?
If its now that's a bit over 1.2M, so only 26, 000 in hospital sounds reasonable.

Recent quote from a Dr at St George's Hospital:

stop “bending” the rules because it's leading to people in their 20s, 30s and 40s dying

Yet on the TV 'phone in's - people are still asking "Is it ok to ....". Mark D has summed it up nicely, he said "Don't ask can I do it, ask should I do it."

Went shopping today - saw an older woman strutting around without a face mask - what a blithering idiot. If you can't wear a face mask in a public place - then get your shopping some other way.

Nah, then bendy buses were Ken's farce - too long and cumbersome for UK roads, and were pretty good at catching fire. Boris' disasters are still in service as the new routemasters (although they are starting to knock on a bit now) - they all have new batteries fitted to the hybrid drivetrains and the third door at the back is not used as a general rule either because they did away with the CA's (cost - which anyone with a brain could have told TfL was going to be the case at the time) - better still, give one a good enough smack to break the glass at the front (partiularly upper) then the bus has to be shipped back to Ireland for repair as it is all boneded and part of the structural strength of the vehicle. I have no clue who Boris paid off to get them type approved as they are just awful - they drive OK from a driver's point of view, when they work of course.

I have heard it said that they are struggling to get people to take it up - apparently many don't want it?

Sadly, that might not be possible - - I have really struggled to get online delivery slots since around September and although I haven't checked since yesterday I would bet that it will be the same or even worse now. Many of them are being selfishly taken by people who could go out and do their shopping with a mask on, but don't want to endure the queues (understandable), however that then leaves CEV folks struggling who are eventually left with no choice but to go out and many of those area CEV because they have some sort of respiratory issue that means they cannot wear a mask.
