Interesting news today from the DGS (Director General of Health) ...

"Today, according to DGS, Aljezur (197) and ... Monchique, which on the list has “only” 98 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, are the only two municipalities in mainland Portugal with a moderate risk."

Both municipalities in Algarve, Monchique being "next door" to me in Silves and Aljezur on the West Coast.

We're not number 18 in line for the vaccines, we're now up to 23rd and still getting pushed to the back! :hate-shocked:

I received my vaccination invite from the NHS today ( not my local surgery). Booked it on line for Wednesday morning. Also booked the 2nd jab for late April, but I keep getting that it is cancelled emails  I'll give them a ring tomorrow, if I can get through.

My brother-in-law got his appointment cancelled the day before it was due, he was able to make another. I'm not sure why it's happening but keep persevering Harry.

Also be wary of any messages about vaccines. Mrs JWK had an email yesterday offering her a jab but it had the wrong NHS logo and said she was being vaccinated "due to genetics" - an obvious scam.

Did you get a letter and book at Book a coronavirus vaccination , or did you get at text and book via the link in that?

It's been rumoured there's a glitch in the letter link that enables 2 bookings to be made, but the one in the text link (to book "vaccinations") only permits the first booking to be made when you get a message: "What about my second vaccination?
The latest government guidance is that your second vaccination should be around 12 weeks after your first. Your practice will contact you about booking this nearer the time."

When I had my jab I was told that they would phone me about the second one. That's how the first one was booked as well. :blue thumb:

I got my appointment through the NHS letter online, not my doctors surgery.
The site is very easy to use, and it gave me 5 choices of locations. I picked St Helens rugby ground. Lots of appointments available so I booked 1st jab for tomorrow but it cancelled my April second jab, even after deleting it and rebooking. It wont let me just rebook the second jab, so I will leave my 1st booking and ring 119 to book the second, may be on the phone all day though!

Hubs received a letter inviting him to book a jab but it also said that if he preferred he could wait until our own GP contacted him . We didn't want to go to a hub so settled on waiting for the call.....it came an hour after getting the letter!!:) :dbgrtmb:

My brother-in-law answered via the letter and has to go to a hub the other side of Southampton...some 10 miles from were he lives. A friend of mine who lives near him decided to wait for his GP to call and although his surgery is too small he is now going to a small village hub 2miles away. Perhaps it pays to wait until your own GP calls you?:dunno:

Update. Phoned the vaccination service and got straight through ! ( after 3 minutes of announcements) The very helpful young lady confirmed both bookings, and said the 2nd jab cancellations must be a glitch in the system. So all OK :dbgrtmb:

Good morning Mrs Woo had her jab at her GP's surgery 10 days ago as we have different surgeries (mine is half a mile from her surgery) I had to take her down so I asked them if they would do mine but they said no,we arrived at 8.45am and she was out at 9am.I received a text for mine which was for 3pm last Friday 9 miles away at Lordswood I arrived there at2.50pm with at least 100 people in front of me it was very cold and wet nearly came home but thought I had to stick it out and have it done time I got to the door it was 4pm and there were at least 100 people behind me,I finally had my jab at 4.15pm ,I did ask why my surgery wasn't doing any jabs and was told that it wasn't suitable and it was under a different health care provider:smile:

please don't check for grammatical errors in my post as its the longest post I have ever written on GC:heehee::heehee:

A fire station not so far away ( Basingstoke) have set up a hub and have trained 60 fire fighters to administer the vaccinations. One of their first patients was Alan Titchmarsh, he said it all was fine but couldn't resist asking if he was the 'first' and was relieved to learn he wasn't and that a lot of practice was put in beforehand.....phew.!!:heehee:

I was told yesterday by my GP (we were discussing another matter) that my surgery is served by local hub (which I knew anyway) and they are still only contacting people in groups 1 & 2!! She sounded very fed up about this. She also said doctors are as confused by all the different vaccines as anyone else.......

Well, the roll out of mass door to door testing doesn't seem to be happening yet, been out and around not seen any activity.

Just had a text message telling me to go and book a regular 2 weekly test at a testing site 6 or 7 miles away, or use the one in the town centre, 3 miles away, that has no parking.

Well, that's far better than my over 80 year old sister originally being asked to get to a Hospital over 12 miles away when she didn't have a car or, when that failed due to there not being a suitable vaccine for her, being asked to travel impossibly even further for a second attempt at a jab.
