In the words of Prof Sir David Spiegelhalter, an expert in understanding risk at Cambridge University:

"Sometimes it can be harmful to wait for certainty. Not vaccinating people will cost lives."

Just doing a catch up. Lots of vaccs. Available later this week including Moderna, the new kid on the block.
Still streets ahead of the rest of Europe...so glad we took the decision to get in there early.
      Good luck @lolimac and @Fat Controller ,
      Jenny

Well, I have no words.... I went today and was refused the vaccine on account of the risks involved after explaining to the nurse in charge what my medical history was. She was absolutely lovely, but also very honest and said that my only path may be to go back to St Thomas' in Central London and see if they will do it in a controlled hospital environment.

        I officially give up.

That's not good news @Fat Controller but perhaps the nurse was right to err on the side of safety. The medical staff at St Thomas' will know best and if you have any problems with the vaccine you will be in the right place for any necessary monitoring or further treatment. It's just a shame you've had unnecessary hassle getting it sorted up until now.

I am not going into hospital, many miles away from home, to have a jab that is apparently so risky that it is the very reason I am in hospital. I am as fit as I am ever going to be, if the risk is so high that it might kill me, then I may as well take my chances with the Kung Flu and save the journey.

Besides, they are already talking about a third wave that will hit us after summer, so we will all be locked up again at the rate we are going. They clearly have a taste for it now.

I understand how you feel. Is it worth a phone call to your doctor explaining what's happened? He/she might have another idea, or even, if you're lucky give you the vaccine at the surgery.

This was attempt number 4 - GP has been involved (attempt two from memory) and even then all they did was book online and hand off to an outside contractor that they didn't even have a phone number for. GP is not doing it at all in my area - all being handed off to contractors or the national scheme.

Enough. I have been a prisoner in my own home for a year now, abided by the rules and still get stuffed.

It makes me wonder whether it's worth bringing it to the attention of your local newspaper. Often it brings someone to the fore that can help.

FC, I think it boils down to the fact that no body is prepared to take responsibility for giving you the jab.
In some ways I get their thinking, but the ball sits firmly in the court of your GP to sort the mess out.

Indeed, it is very much a case of passing the buck around and that includes my GP - however, I am now left questioning if I even want to take the risk at all. They clearly know there is a risk involved somewhere, and whilst I accept that there is a risk with anything in life, we are also dealing with a vaccine that has bypassed all of the normal testing protocols.

Well they keep telling us it has been fully tested.
I realise long term problems cannot be ruled out entirely but they have vaccinated enough people now to know pretty much about all short to medium term problems it might entail.
I also realise that the effects on your condition might not be well understood, but shouldn't it be your GPs job to investigate and take it up with the relative people.

Sorry to hear all this FC...can't offer you any words of advice ( wise or not) but agree that your GP should be the one to look for a way to secure you with receiving your vaccination in a way that is appropriate to your needs and medical history. Go back to him/ her please ...you really need to have it done.
                        Take care.x

There are residents where I live who are house bound and my Surgery has made personal visits to give vaccines. They get paid £100 per visit to do it.
