I think it was the beeb - presenter asked whether it was wise to mix vaccines. The brainiac said that they already mix vaccines for some diseases - and in these cases mixing increased protection. But he went on to say that this is a new vaccine so everyone will be getting the same flavour of 2nd jab. This AZ shortage - the NHS have been told to hold them back for AZ 2nd jabs.

I wonder if they have had the first jab and so thought that it was OK to break the rules? I'm alright Jack syndrome. No matter what, there will be people who just don't care/understand. Even after my 2nd jab, I'm going to be on guard.

Read a local news article this morning - fit/healthy guy in his 40's has been taken by Covid-19.

The problem is going to arise when you turn up for your second jab and the place you booked is using a different one to what you have already had, I booked both appointments at the same time but at different places.

I am in awe of our NHS - they're not messing about.

The number of daily Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the UK has hit a record high for the third consecutive day.

A total of 873,784 combined first and second doses were given on Saturday, up from 711,157 on Friday.

When you see the numbers involved you must also consider how the manufacture of so many doses has been achieved.
So very clever people out there.

Read an interesting article last night. It explained how vaccine efficacy is calculated. In a nut shell:

                - efficacy rate cannot be used to compare vaccines. It depends upon the timing, location and number of people in the trial. The Pfizer vaccine for example was trialled when infection rates were relatively low and when there were no variants. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has a lower efficacy rate - but it was trialled during high levels of infection and when the Covid-19 variants were rife. The brainiac said that all vaccines will have similar efficacy rates if there is a level playing field.

                - the purpose of a vaccine is not to stop infection - it is to stop people from becoming seriously ill. All of the vaccines do this.

                - all vaccines have shown to be 100% effective in stopping people dying from Covid-19.

So, the real message is - if you are offered a vaccine - any vaccine - then you would be wise to get a jab.

This message needs to get out there - people in Europe are refusing the AZ vaccine and in the US some states are only offering the higher efficacy rate vaccines.

Had to see my Surgeon this morning and he is very pleased with his AZ vaccine. If it is good for him, it will good for us.

Didn't know this - looks like the UK is largely self sufficient when it comes to AZ. Let's hope that the Oxford boffins are equally as swift when it comes to designing a vaccine which can fight virus variants.

The UK has ordered 100 million doses of AZ. Almost all will come from within the UK, but 10 million doses are being made by the Serum Institute in India.

I'm going to say it again - the only vaccine to be sold at cost - not for the purposes of making profits like all the others.

If we are self sufficient regarding the AZ vaccine why are they telling us that there will be problems with supply in April.
Boris is doing his usual waffle on the TV atm and it all points to the fact we will being exporting vaccine, without actually saying it.

Why are they predicting the 3rd wave in Europe will come here, bearing in mind most of the at risk population has now been given at least one dose.

Lots of goal post moving going on I'm thinking .

I know it's hard but have faith in Boris - he's thrown everything we have at the virus - which is why we aren't in the same position as the EU. The alternative is Starmer - if he had got in we'd be up the creek without a paddle.

Heard on the radio that a brainiac is saying that if Boris has locked down a week earlier we could have saved 20,000 lives.

This of course assumes that everyone will fully comply with the earlier lock down - they won't.

What I find infuriating about the Starmer side of things is they keep going on about wanting the government to come up with a "road map" out of this.
Then as soon as they get one they start saying the virus doesn't know dates and you need to follow the science.:rolleyespink:

I'm sure the Government would have done things differently with hindsight.

Hands up who would have thought we'd still be in lockdown 12 months later?
