From ITV for a change - impressive factoid:

Around 6,100 deaths among those aged 70 and over have been averted due to the Covid-19 vaccination programme so far, new analysis shows.

With vaccines also thought to have an effect on transmission of the virus, the 6,100 figure could prove to be an underestimate.

Talking to friends and family that have had the vaccine, it seems that women are more likely to get harsh side effects than men. Any thoughts on this?

My parents and wife have now had their second jabs, all had the pfizer vaccine. Both my mum and wife were not well after the second jab, both roughly 24hrs after getting the jab. Mother was laid up in bed for 36 hours and my wife actually had to go to A&E, both are ok now. As for my dad, who is the one with health issues, nothing.

I'm glad to hear your mother and wife are well now. :) I had my first jab of Astra Zeneca four weeks ago and suffered. It took me a week and a half to get over it so not looking forward to the second one. Some doctors say the effects of the second jab are worse and others say it's better. Who do we believe?

That's exactly the discussion amongst my lucky friends who have had their jab(s). For some, the first one brought seriously rubbish reactions even making them bed ridden for several days, most have had no effects at all.

I think we can't speculate based on the level of individual experiences. There are so many factors, including the current strength of your overall immune system, any viral infections going on in your body, an asymptotic Covid already passed and so on.

My older nearest and dearest have all had the first rounds and no side effects at all. MIL had stopped taking her annual flu jabs due to the severe side effects she had from them but took this one and is perfectly all right. She's in her 80s.

All in all, things are starting to look a bit more positive now. :)

I had a stronger reaction than my husband - we were both done ( AZ ) on the same day.
I can handle a day or so... better than the real deal eh?

Everyone I know, a sore arm and possibly a little flu like for 24 hours, no real problems.

Yesterday we went under "stay within your own County and at home" orders till 5 April ... at which time our cafes, bars and restaurants will open (terraces only) with a maximum of four people per table. :yay:

I'm not sure I actually had an injection.
She had her hand in the way, so I couldn't see what she was doing and I never felt the needle go in.
No reaction to the jab at all, no sore arm or bad feeling.
Seen them on the TV with cotton wool on the area and wiping it, but I didn't have any of that.

                        Neither did I.

We just had a brief chat about the horrible (a nasty day when I went), a quick job and goodbye. Yes, I did feel it but I can feel a mosquito land :rolleyespink:, but just a very slightly bruised feeling for a day or two. not really sore.

When I had mine last week they were great but the nurse was hiding the needle behind her back and she said 'you ready'...I did say she didn't have to hide it unless she was thinking of shuvving a Javelin in my arm...no ill effects here with the Az..well a sore arm and an iffy tum  but nothing to write home about.
My old Mum had the Pfizer and she was tickety boo:yes:

I didn't feel anything either, not even the tiniest mark could be found on my arm. No side effects whatsoever. I had the Pfizer one. No swab, plaster or sticky badge to say that I'd had it like it's sometimes shown on tv :). My sister was bad after having the AZ one for several days. Everyone reacts differently.

I had my second Pfizer jab yesterday and my arm was stiff and sore before bed; this morning I was feeling distinctly lacklustre; things seem to be easing now.
