    I don't like this bit .

    'Prof Whitty predicted that in the medium term, coronavirus could mutate into a "vaccine escape variant" that could take the UK "some of the way backwards" into the worst days of the pandemic.'

    We really do need to be cautious, I hope madness doesn't rear it's ugly head on Monday!!

    I think the problem we have as spectators of all this is we have the likes of Whitty making everything sound so doom and gloom and the government ,especially Boris, making it all sound pretty rosy .

    Who do you believe.

    Every day we hear a new problem has reared its ugly head.

    It's still a case of do whatever you think is right and sod the rest, because we can't, as individuals, change a single thing whatever happens.

      No, it's supposed to be everyone who was pinged (close to someone who has contracted the virus and alerted by the App).

      I think we are talking about different things. I am talking about people who have been tested and are asymptomaatic, ie, those who are not in hospital but have tested positive.

      What about the people who don't have an app?

        They don't get pinged :noidea: I can't have an App.

        It's the wholesale randomness of the App that has led to 25% of the people having now deleted their App. Apparently you can get pinged because your App has read the message that your neighbour has caught Covid as the signal can travel through walls. :rolleyespink:

        They're now calling it the Pingdemic :whistle:

          Pete, I think I'll stick with Prof.Whitty as he's medical. His track record for predicting correctly, despite the way too optimistic vision that Boris seems to adopt at times ,is pretty accurate imo.

          I think when all is said and done they are all trying their very best. Boris to get the economy back up and running and to lift restrictions to boost morale and public frustrations and Prof. Whitty is determined to keep us well informed on what is reality and what could potentially happen .
          Just think if we weren't informed and something did happen...he would get hung, drawn and quartered by the public for not giving a heads up!!

            I reckon the UK are about the kick the bottom of the virus.

            Let's have a quick look at the figures:

            50,000 plus people infected today - who will develop natural immunity;
            87% of all adults have had a first dose;
            67% of all adults have had a second dose;
            children spreading the virus around their class mates;
            who knows how many already have natural immunity.

            The virus is running out of places to go.

              I think the warnings we are getting today kind of points out where we are these days.

              Two days of warm weather forecast and we are being warned how to keep cool, not to get sun burnt etc. etc.
              The Nanny state is getting out of hand.

                  A couple of my great nieces have caught covid again this last week, they had it around Christmas time. So I think immunity wears off quickly, sure it varies person to person and being young it was no worse than a bad cold for them.

                    So the Health Minister who has had his jabs, goes down with covid.
                    The PM who has had the virus, and his jabs, has to go into purdah at the beginning of The Great Leap Forwards.
                    This is hardly confidence-inspiring regarding immunity due to vaccination or previous exposure, as JWK writes, immunity seems to wear off quickly.

                      I assume they have caught a different variant to the one they had first time.
                      If you think about it, we are told that the common cold is also a corona virus, bearing that in mind we could end up catching these variants from time to time even after you have just had one bout of it.
                      In a similar way to how we catch colds each year, but the hope is once we all get some kind of exposure to it the effects will become less severe.

                        Now that they have 'lifted' the rules does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep on washing our hands? :scratch:
