    Well done to Tesco Express staff and customers for wearing masks this morning.

      I still don't see testing as a long term thing that can be done to everyone entering a big event.
      If you had to pay for every test, would you want to do it.

      As I said, give those with medical reasons a free card but any who just say I don't want it should have to put up with the consequences .

        FC asks "The PM and the government should be the ones to make the final decision, of course - but, ask yourself if you trust them? I sure as hell don't."

        I trust them absolutely FC.
        I trust them to lie, to be greedy, to be indifferent to child poverty, to sell weapons all over the world, and be generally mendacious. My trust is experience-based, and a sure footing from which to assess the situation.

          My take on Covid & the Government is:

          We should have begun lockdown slightly earlier and only come out of lockdown when the Deaths & Hospital cases fell and kept falling.

          Coming out of lockdown on Monday was premature.

          But ha, neither the Tories or Labour have a Crystal Ball to consult.

          I think this Government done well to order the Vaccines they did and to get that many millions vaccinated.

            I've just seen a map of the local area - which pin points the location of people who are infected and those isolating - they are all around us.

            Stay sharp everyone - even if you've had your 2 jabs.

            Doing the weekly Morrisons shop today - saw a bloke without a mask on. He must have popped over from England - not realising that he is in a different country with different rules. I gave him one of my hard stares (ala Paddington) and he scuttled off quickly. Everyone else was protecting him by wearing a mask - he needs to show everyone else that same courtesy.

              How do you know he wasn't exempt @clanless?

              I agree that it is all around us - my next door neighbour's stepdaughter tested positive last week so they are all isolating in different parts of the house, but she isn't that bad as I've heard them out in the garden chatting and enjoying the sun.

                They are all around us:biggrin:
                Yeah that's why everyone and anyone who has the app have been pinged and told to stay at home, and are rapidly getting rid of the app.

                Its got to the point now where people are starting to think, this has been around for 18 months now, and I aint dead yet?
                So they are really not going to follow rules and do what otherwise would be considered strange things.

                If you recoiled at the sight of another person invading your 2 mtr exclusion zone, and clutched a mask to your face you would have been considered some kind of weirdo a couple of years ago.

                Its partly the reason why, I believe the government are lifting restrictions, they know they cant enforce them any longer regardless of the consequences.

                  He had very shifty looking eyes :th scifD36: - and knew full well that he was up to no good. The same look that Boris has when he's doing a press conference..:biggrin:

                  If I was exempt from wearing a mask - I'd consider a face shield - or go to the shops when it is not as busy. Everyone has to do their bit.

                    I'm a lttle bit confused about rules during covid over there.

                    We have different stages of lockdown. Each progressively more lenient. We are in stage three but outside of private functions with limited guests, or sitting at a table at the restaurant, we are required to mask and try to maintain social distancing. If you get up to go to the loo at a resaurant, you put your mask on.

                    Some areas in my province are still in stage two because their cases and hospitalization numbers are not low enough to justify moving to the next stage.

                    Are you guys either all open or ??? Totally confused!

                      I can see why it doesn't make sense @CanadianLori, each of the 4 UK nations have different rules. In England nearly all restrictions have been lifted as of yesterday. Clanless is in Wales where restrictions are still in place, Scotland and Northern Island also have different rules and restrictions, so that would be why us in the UK are saying different things.

                        If I was to guess:

                        - we've run out of money - we need to get the economy up and running;
                        - herd immunity;
                        - NHS needs to start doing other things;
                        - unvaccinated young people are less likely to die - they just get long covid;
                        - if someone in their 80's dies - we have one less pension to pay and a tidy sum from inheritance tax. Brutal but just look at the reason behind extending the state pension age;
                        - people want to get back to normal.

                        My Mum is 83 - I'm going to do all I can to protect her from covid - that is my sole motivation and that is why I will continue to wear a mask and socially distance.

                          I think you have summed it up there, two very different approaches to the same situation.

                          One from the point of view of running a country and the other very personal view of looking after your Mum.

                          Obviously you treat them differently and is probably why those in high places get caught out by the media, trying to walk the tightrope between living a normal life and being in government.

                            They supposedly follow the science ..........What IS the alternative?
                            Then who DO we trust?

                              We have our second dose tomorrow of Pfizer.

                              The friend painting our house today said "It is just a cold". He has been double dosed. I agree but to a more virulent extent. I still don't want to be near people I don't know ... but that is me with a medical history. I prefer to say safe.

                                We agree that the vaccine does not stop you getting Covid?

                                We agree that someone can have Covid and not have any symptoms and therefore not know?

                                On that basis, it is entirely possible for someone who is positive, carrying and spreading Covid to go into a nightclub or venue as long as they have the app on their phone that says they are OK. Yet someone with no app who has done a test that says they are negative won't be allowed in. Doesn't take a scientist to work out that is barmy.
