Yesterday we got our village back, the many thousands of visitors who turned up on Saturday because the NT grounds were free had disappeared and elderly dog owners reappeared, everyone standing back but pausing to check things were OK and if anybody needed anything.

Families were out with their younger children, but teenagers were gathering in large groups and celebrating as if they'd just finished their exams.

Upset at the (understandable but still upsetting) anger here. Just trying to get back after the covid death in our family, and saw y'day the Gardaí trying to sort the crowds endangering themselves and others on crowded beaches etc. Look; we do what we need to do. OK? OK! To protect and care for family and old ones. We are not here to judge how others are coping or endangering others; that is for the authorities to do. Just to cope with our own family etc. These are unprecedented times. The world is a scary place just now. I am already permanently in strict isolation and have been for years as my immune system ( nearly 80) does not work and a simple cold could kill me. It has taken me a long while on the small island where I live to set up supply lines but it is working fine now. Today I have to organise a prescription delivery which is worrying so far out. Maybe someone near you needs some practical help? So they can stay home? Anyways, sitting here abed with tears flowing at the distress here . Signing off again. Wind is howling. PLEASE. CALM DOWN? Yes the crowds are wrong. Yes they are stooopid etc etc etc. And yes the Gardaí etc will clamp down on them. That is their job; ours to care for ourselves and others. PLEASE. BE SAFE.
      islandanchorhold.blogspot.com will find me.
      Blessings and peace.

We have no friends or family and no neighbours we can trust, no local shops, we're just carrying on as we normally do

@Sirius got me thinking and I suspect he has a good point however badly phrased.

I know many of us have said the same thing about how we have to isolate in all other circumstances, yet we have no option but to mingle with crowds and stand in queues to get our food. That's where we are infecting each other. Some of us are lucky enough to have organised supermarket home delivery's but there are limited slots.

Having followed a couple of Chinese diarists I have completed changed my mind about them. Earlier in this thread I said:

I was wrong about the Chinese, I now understand a little better. The reason they have controlled the virus is that they have respect for each other, have pride in their country and have faith in their leaders.

The main example that changed my mind is how they obeyed the lockdown messages. They immediately obeyed without mass panic, living on what little they had in their homes. About a week later their government had organised a system of home delivery's. Hence they avoided the crazy situation here in the UK where we all have to crowd together to buy food. The Chinese did this because they trusted their government to come to their rescue.

Our government needs to wake up and use whatever means they can to get food safely to everyone, the army, the councils, private contractors whatever must be mobilised. It sounds alarmist but it has worked for China.

I think @Sirius has really just pointed out the stupidity of it all.
You are supposed to stay 2m apart if you are outside in a park but you are expected to huddle in massive queues in supermarkets.
Just can't see it working.

Good morning as you know I have been self isolating for 2 weeks now but shopping is getting very low now,Tescos are open this morning from 9am to 10am for the over 70's can't see the point of this or do they want to lump all the oldies together so we can catch the virus of of each other,or have they got a trap door inside and then when we are all standing on it they can just pull the lever:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

The supermarket queuing is a problem. We avoid the big supermarkets and are using click and collect - can't get a home delivery slot. We have a few mini-supermarkets around the village, but you still have to queue in a line to checkout, they need to get a system in to make it safer. You can never be 100% safe, just be as careful as practically possible.

In Denmark they have placed large red dots in queue lanes for people to stand on and stay apart. In Italy, outside the supermarkets they have done similar so the queue to get in looks more like a grid pattern... In the UK it's a free for all and up yours to anyone nearby [appreciate that is a massive generalisation].

I reckon we are heading towards total lock down - because some people think this a holiday period - and lock down with police enforcement is the only way to slow down the virus.

My brother lives on the Norfolk coast and his little village is being swamped by the second homers and holiday renters, clearing out the village shop and not observing social distancing at fish and chip takeaways, crowding the beach etc. Locals are getting angry, they are putting up posters telling them to go home. It could turn nasty unless the govt turns the 'advice' into law and issuing big fines.

All the queues I have stood in, so far, John, have observed the recommended separation and I have had no problems whatsoever. The only people to get too close are Children who are getting
bored standing in the queues:heehee: My problem with Supermarkets is that the World and his Mate have used the Shopping Trolley before me. I use a small sponge soaked in neat disinfectant to swab the handle of the Shopping Trolley before I use it.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

A prophetic film worth watching IMO. Our local town hall showed it 6 months ago - we have (now stopped) a large room where once a month, locals could attend ...all significant films ,

Me too, around here folk are being good. I have not personally witnessed bad behaviour. My sister in Yorkshire reports differently, at the early morning OAP happy hour she had someone breathing down her neck at the checkout, she politely asked him to observe the rules but wouldn't as nobody else was. Grrrr :paladin:

It's times like this that you realise just how important the various jobs really are - and many of those jobs are relatively low paid - supermarket workers, delivery drivers etc. Highly paid celebrities, sports stars etc. - very little real value to society when we're up against the wall.
