Alright Ted.
What I meant was @JWK that kids always seem have to be amused by adults, when not looking at the screen.
I know of grand parents who clear the whole day for when the grand kids are dropped on them.
And the moaning you hear from parents during the summer holidays and how much it costs to keep them amused, it all has to be organized play, they are not happy just digging holes anymore or climbing trees.

 

I get the impression that kids very easily keep themselves amused nowadays. From about the age of 5 all they need is an up-to-the-minute mobile phone and unlimited data

 

Agree Pete , my sister plans so much for the day she has her grandkiddies, also has tv on in the background too.

During my years in Childcare, one important thing I learnt at college ,and always made sure to incorporate in my daily timetables, was free play with the carefully thought out provision of 'open ended' toys and resources. This allowed the children the opportunity to use their imagination to create scenarios and engage in their own devised role play that were free from adult input/ intervention.
This provided a healthy ' breathing space' for both me and the children.
During this time I was able to observe and log their development , noting how and what they attempted and achieved. How they socialised and used their language skills to think up play scenarios and select resources and allocate play roles to each other, handling disputes and conflicts of ideas etc.

Being kept in adult led activities , imo, doesn't really allow this freedom and development of very important life skills.

 

We could also end being sued too. I had two brothers that were allergic to everything it seemed ,food wise and to the exposure of sunshine. Each time we ventured outside ( everyday) they had to be smothered in lotions ,dressed so no skin was exposed, hats worn with flaps and sunglasses!!!
Then the family emigrated to Australia!!

I agree I think immunity levels have been lowered. I always had to carry around a multitude of Epi Pens !!!

 

What family moved to Australia?

 

I think people have lost the natural immunity we used to have, We still live by our old "habits" and are never ill ... but we also abide by the rules here (stricter than there) under the current circumstances. We don't feel we are being unnecessarily controlled or our liberties are being taken away from us and no one we know feel that either.

 

I remember my Sis climbing up an old crab apple tree up the road from us (which we were not allowed to do) and a branch broke, she fell/slithered down slicing her thigh from top to knee on the broken bit! She had to admit what she was doing. She did not have stitches but had a scar for life, and she had olive skin.

 

??? The family with the two brothers that were apparently allergic to nearly everything.

Sorry...they weren't my brothers, but 2 children in my care.

Omicron reinfection risk significantly higher compared to prior variants

Risk of severe disease and hospitalisation significantly lower in Omicron infection compared to prior variants

Despite point 3 - boosters do provide added protection - so worth getting - if only just to reduce further the low risk of severe disease.

If Boris goes for another lock down - he'll be receiving a stiff letter from me. That will teach him...

Well I’m officially out of isolation today, feeling a lot better but not 100%, managed today to book my booster for Jan 4th, they won’t let me have the booster until 28 days of having a positive test, think I’ll stay in till then, don’t want this again
