My grandson's nativity play is online only, the kids are in a big hall being videoed for the parents to watch at home. Same as last Christmas.

Our local primary is designed like that too @shiney ...all have doors leading out to a terrace. Children don't seem to feel the cold like us oldies!!
On the news they were interviewing some Head Teachers who were saying that their heating bills were going to be very steep, but doors and windows will remain open. :dbgrtmb:

There's one thing I will say about lock down - it has opened up live theatre to more people - and it looks like that it's going to continue.

I would guess that the government grants provided to theatres were used to purchase broadcast equipment - but then I'm only guessing.

We've seen live - as it happens - broadcasts from The Old Vic. and The Bristol Old Vic. On the 20th January we will be enjoying a live broadcast from the Royal Opera House. I will say this - the videography for each show was spot on - possibly better than sitting in the same seat in the theatre.

I read that in one case - 20,000 additional people viewed one particular play online - and there was no way they could have accommodated that number of warm bodies in the theatre. People from all over the world enjoyed the performance.

Us grandparents couldn't always get tickets pre-Covid so being able to watch the video is a bonus.

Yes, that's a positive but a lot of West End shows and opera etc. have been available for years to the people outside of the Metropolitan areas through cinemas broadcasting them live. We quite often saw them at the Alhambra in Keswick which is a typical cinema of the period from well over 100 years ago.

They regularly show live shows from the Royal Ballet and the Met Opera etc.

Trouble is around here they charge excessively for these screenings. I would not mind if it was normal cinema prices but it's double or treble.

They will have to pay for the rights to screen the live event, which needs to be taken into account in ticket pricing. If it costs more to watch a live event at the cinema than it is to be there in person, then it would be excessive.

I wouldn't go if they paid me that much, I liked them in their prime but never enough to want to see them.
