In absolute fairness to the NHS, that is the crux of their problem - there has been a significant decline in GP's, A&E units and hospital beds at the same time as there has been an inversely proportionate increase in population. Mention immigration as part of the cause, however, and you are branded a right-wing racist thug.

Put your hat on, because those restrictions are virtually a certainty just after Christmas and will last until the end of March. ;)

There have been 12 deaths from the 104 hospitalized with Omincron. That's a death rate of 12%. So if you catch this and end up in hospital, the odds are against you. Hardly a farce, more of a very serious situation.

If you end up in hospital, that is a pretty rough percentage right enough - however, when you balance that number against the number of cases, that perception changes completely. We have a choice I think - we either keep scaring ourselves witless over this thing by looking at percentages like that, or take it the other way up - that is 104 people out of a population of circa 70 million...

Without knowing the death rate of hospitalisations during other waves its not very useful info really, is it?
12% is that one in 8? but up till now.

Also that is 'with' and not 'of' yet again. Comorbidities play a huge part in this.

There is a time lag to consider too, in past waves it took a few weeks for those unlucky people who were hospitalized to start dying. Being pessimistic it could be the worst wave yet, I hope I'm wrong.

Under the Cameron / Clegg coalition they pledged to reduce net migration to tens of thousands. So, they increase visa fees and announce the (IHS) Immigration Health Surcharge, to non EU migrants. The IHS was set at £200 per year and was introduced on the 6th April 2015, it was then increased to £400 in January 2019 and then again in October 2020 to £624. So, anyone from outside the EU wanting to come to work, study or settle in the UK, not only had there been an increase in visa fees, you had to pay the IHS which went up £424 in 22 months.

The problem with the IHS, it has to be paid upfront, so if you get a job offer to come to work in the UK and your issued with a visa for 3 years, then £1872 has to be paid before a visa or work permit is granted. There is no, pay monthly or yearly, you pay up front or your not getting in.

This year the Tory government announced the IHS would be waived to all health and social care workers who want to come and work in the UK. Plus those who are currently working in the UK, they are now entitled to a refund. Recruitment for GP'S, Nurses, Social care workers etc etc from outside the EU has been in decline, with the increase's in the IHS being the main cause. Then throw into the mix, EU workers have been going back to their native homes.

Those who could get a job offer and a visa to work in the UK are the very ones that should have the IHS waived as they will be paying into the system via taxation; those arriving on dinghies or given a taxi ride courtesy of Border Farce or RNLI however are likely not to work (and indeed not be allowed to work which is a bit daft) yet will be afforded healthcare, housing and so on. Whether they are working or not, paying IHS or not, the sheer numbers are the issue.

I think those arriving in dinghies are paying more than £1872 in order to get here.

The idea that those people are poor seems ridiculous to me, the poor ones don't make Calais.

No doubt they are, but they are not contributing (nor are they able to as our government prevents them from doing so even if they wanted to) in financial terms. It is the numbers that are the real issue though, whether they arrive by Eurostar, dinghie, plane or birth canal.
