If hospital numbers don't rise surely we can regard it as similar to getting a cold and get back to normal life?
I say this because I am relatively fit and healthy , have had 2 vaccs and a booster. I am no longer afraid of getting the Omicron Covid strain,

Having never worn a mask until this lot started I find it all a bit strange.
Can't say I have ever really bothered about other people coughing etc. and there has always been colds and flu around.
I've never liked crowds, but that is mainly because of the pushing and shoving rather than any disease threat.
My experience of most colds and flu is you catch it off family members or workmates not so much the general public.
Crowded indoor areas will always be there I'm thinking, places like pubs, clubs cinemas etc. so if mask wearing is to become normal in crowded indoor places I'm I'm thinking it would put a lot of people off using those places.

In some countries ventilation and outdoor eating places are much easier to provide.

Well yes, keep quoting case numbers, I get a feeling case numbers might well fall after Christmas is over, its the sheer amount of testing that is going on atm.
Hopefully once people get back to work, if that is allowed to happen, they will go back to doing the same amount of testing as they were before Christmas.

As we keep saying, let's concentrate on hospital admissions and stop putting so much emphasis on case numbers.

We are social animals @pete and generally quite tactile with people that we know well. No matter what we do in life, we are going to come into contact with viruses and bacteria, to avoid it we would need to go around in hazmat suits all the time and even then we would still get ill.

I've barely been over the door in two years, except walking round parks etc, yet I am sat here now with a thumping head and have had a grotty chest for a couple of weeks. I have a bit of a chest infection/cold. I don't have any of the other symptoms so I know it is not covid, nor am I even going to bother testing for it because I am a wee bit off colour - nothing more. I couldn't have done much more than I have in the past two years; I have almost been a bloomin' hermit.

When I first landed in Bangkok in 1999, I was taken aback by how many people were wearing face masks in the airport, I was actually concerned there was a health issue.

Asian Face Masks: Why Do Asians Wear Masks? (weexpats.com)

When you take into account the population of Asia, the number of cases and deaths compared to the West is considerably lower. They don't socialise the same as we do, take away the tourists, the bar and nightlife scene would be non existent. The beaches are crowded with tourists, yet Asian's would tend to go the beach later in the day. You actually don't see many Asian's wearing shorts or minimal clothing, they protect themselves from the sun. It would explain why skin cancer is more prevalent in Western countries than Asian countries.

They don't do handshakes, hugs or kisses when greeting someone, to this day some of my in laws still feel uncomfortable to shake my hand or give me a hug, my MIL being the exception.

I never understand why the French kissing strangers when greeting each other they are so weird :heehee: , makes me cringe when someone tries it on me :runforhills:.

I have quite a big personal space bubble can't be doing with strangers talking to me close up , I am not keen on people being to close to me that I know.

I don't like wearing masks in the summer and haven't worn a mask until it was reintroduced, don't mind to much in the winter keeps my faces warm and I feel like I am in incognito mode :th scifD36: especially when I got my coat on hood up and a hat on.

Another advantage is, if anyone gets into my space I can swear at them while wearing a mask:old: they can't hear me, but ha it's make me feel better:yay:

I work with a lot of French folks and they are very friendly indeed - it is just their way rather than a handshake. Mind you, us Brits can be a really tactile bunch when we want to be... when I was in the office/depots there was hugs aplenty really.

Never worked anywhere where people feel the need to hug one another.

I did know a S. African bloke who always shook hands in the mornings, we all thought he was a bit odd.:yikes:

Our place is (was) very much like a family in some ways - quite a rough and tumble environment, but the sort of folks that would stand at your shoulder in your hour of need without a second thought. Maybe not as much nowadays as it once was.

The Portuguese are very tactile. Women hug and kiss, men kiss, shake hands or "man hug". Women greet women and men, men greet women and men.
From the internet TV Tropes ...

"Man Hug is a show of deep trust and close friendship between two men that cannot be broken easily. It may be a show of comfort, a wordless offer of good luck, or even a gesture of greeting. It is often combined with a handshake, so that two men approach, shake hands, throw the free arm around their partner, briefly bump chests, and separate without any further fanfare."

Our health mouth pieces are now saying that after you are infected with omicron you only need to isolate for 5 days as after that it is not any longer transmissable. Anyone else heard this please?

How do you know which variant you have?

Its been dropped to 7 days from 10, I think, over here as long as you do a test on the last two days and come up negative.
