My uncle married a South African national which was about 45 years ago. When they moved back to the UK he would shake your hand, but instead of using one hand he would shake your hand with both hands, which is apparently the way in S/Africa.

In Thailand they put both hands together and slightly bow their head, then say Sawadee Krap for males and Sawadee Kap for females, which means hello. When you formally meet someone, it's title first then forename, very rarely do you address someone by their title then your surname.

We always used to get lots of hugs at work (female to male) and with friends and family. I still get them from ex-staff but with heads turned away.

In most of the Asian countries I travel to it's quite common to great with a Namaste and a slight nod of the head. It becomes almost second nature to do so.

When I say kiss I mean "air kiss". When I went to the Chiropractor earlier this month he greeted with a fist bump or whatever they are called but we all had masks on. We had our temperatures taken when we entered the Clinic.

I remember my mother putting me in a room with my brothers when they had measles, or mumps or chicken pox in the hopes I would also become infected and "get it over with". I never did oblige but at this point maybe it would be good if we (healthy people) all just got this latest version and be finished with it!

Yeah it was the "done" thing around here as well, just accept you were going to get it and get it all done at once.
              Yeah?
Maybe until next autumn when they start watching cases and push the panic button again.

Haha! This is the French we're talking about ;) The masks have had a big effect here insofar as they've cut out a lot of the daily kissy-kissy which is the cause of all infectious diseases spreading like wildfire.

Um, they don't kiss strangers, Perki. They always ask someone they've just met if it's OK and in 99.9% of cases, a Frenchman will wait for a woman to make the first approach. Children are brought up to kiss family and close family friends, and work colleagues do it, true. With family it varies from 2 pecks to 5, depending on region  Then you get delightful people like my nearest neighbour who comes round for a chat and a cuppa only when she's got a cold. I'm onto her now, though :roflol:

We only rarely go to supermarkets or shops, I guess bread and veggies and fruit are now sold prepackaged. Don't think we ever bought anything that was unwrapped like fresh bread in a supermarket. Knowing how unhygienic some people are and the propensity to squeeze loaves or fumble through a fruit display.

I'm sorry @JWK but I still dont think that is a main way disease is spread, its person to person, close contact.
People are unhealthy, end of, stay clear of.

Must admit, never liked the idea of salad counters in supermarkets, to open for anyone to put some nasty stuff into.

From some rag called 'The Independent'....

Mass Covid deaths and full intensive care units are likely ‘now history’ in UK, scientist claims. ‘This not the same disease as we were seeing a year ago,’ Professor Sir John Bell says.

Professor Sir John Bell FRS HonFREng PMedSci - hah, what does he know?

I keep on telling you Boris - do an Oz and let it rip. You're bashing the economy and stopping people with far more serious medical issues from seeking treatment.

The numbers are disasterous. I think everyone is going around as normal with a "cold" and is passing it along to everyone else. I will continue to stay at home unless necessary to leave.
