That would be the most logical explanation. it's not uncommon for companies to recall faulty products.

I tried mixing the juice with the buffer solution and another with pure juice only, both gave negative results.

Kids just use a red felt tip pen. Bingo! A few days at home locked in their bedroom - which is where they would rather be these days :)

Not sure how true this is
but juice may show a faint red line after 30 minutes

I've not had any test so i don't know how they work

              Next experiment please.;)

Can someone who has a common cold please see if it gives a negative or positive.
              That's a bit trickier.;)

The test kits I have all say that the result should be read at 15 minutes after dropping the liquid in, and that results are not reliable long after that. So I'm assuming that more or less any liquid left long enough will eventually react with the colourants on the pad that make the second line. Juice and pop results suggest that acidic liquids might work better. (See Dad, my Little Chemist kit wasn't a waste of money after all :heehee: )

So far amongst my colleagues and friends who had to test regularly, the kits have been quite successful. All who have caught the virus got a positive home test result, usually just when the symptoms started i.e. feel a bit sniffy, test, get positive.

Most likely negative results are less reliable as the virus count in the nose is lower.

In general, I think it's great to have the tests around. Many of my friends have done daily tests for a week before spending time with their elderly parents, which I think is sensible and reassuring. :)

We have been testing and been tested quite often. When visiting elderly care home relatives, there is no choice but to have the LFT test done by one of the staff. The care homes have gradually reduced their restrictions so it's only a case of wearing a mask now and we can be in the same room (with windows/doors wide open). LFTs have drastically reduced the infections of these vulnerable old folk.

We have had a few family get togethers cancelled at the last minute when one of us tested positive with a LFT. They don't always have symptoms or just thought it was a cold. I'm certain the LFTs have saved us from catching Covid. We have also had near misses, been pinged by the NHS App so took precautions to not go outdoors until our PCR result came back. Contrary to what social media says about the App and LFTs they undoubtedly save lives.

It looks like we are in for a bumpy ride over the next 2 or 3 weeks, businesses have been told to prepare for 25% staff shortages.

Allegedly so. Like most of the rest of this, they can make up whatever they like and we've got little choice but to believe it.

I think that is a rumour spreading over t'net - but as with all rumours it has some fact behind it.

The boffins reckon that Omicron patient zero caught Delta and a common cold at the same time - both combined in patient zero's cells - up pops Omicron. As they are both a corona virus - this does sort of make sense - each battling to replicate itself using a shared cell.

A case of, tell us only what they want us to know.

Was this virus circulating sooner than we have been lead to believe?

COVID-19 circulating in Italy as early as September 2019, scientists claim | World News | Sky News

Did SARS-CoV-2 hit Europe earlier than we thought? (medicalnewstoday.com)

Was this strain actually circulating sooner than first reported, or was it a less severe strain that mutated to be more severe?

My mum and dad were very poorly round mid Jan 2020, my mother was actually hospitalized with breathing difficulties.

Why has China, the source of the outbreak had so few deaths, the same for Japan, Thailand, Vietnam etc etc. We know why the West is reporting huge number of new cases, due to the fact we are testing far more compared to other continents.

With my Mrs working in the NHS, I know this virus is real. Yet she is more relaxed and back to her bubbly self compared to when we first went in to lockdown in March 2020.

It looks like Mark reckons it will all be over by February:

Wales is in for a "very challenging few weeks" with a peak of the Omicron variant expected later this month, the first minister has said.

From our daily national paper ...

"One infected with Omicron infects 216 people in 12 days, measles only 15

The new variant of SARS-CoV-2, Omicron, detected just over a month ago in South Africa is already considered to have the fastest propagation in history. According to US specialists, this virus 'conquered' the planet in just one month. It's stronger than the Measles virus. One infected with Measles causes 15 infections in 12 days, one infected with Omicron 216. In 60 days, it is estimated that a single person infected with this variant can infect 14 million people."
