just read this headline for an article repeated in one of our newspapers. Even the title makes sense and really says it all!
"We can't jab the whole planet every six months'

Well Boris has said tonight that there will be no more curbs and that we will have to ride it out. Unlike the first covid wave, I know quite a few friends and family who have had it. My friend who is also in his 70's caught it Xmas day. But like everyone else I know was over it in 6 days. Not sure of the reasons people are being hospitalised, what percentage are unvaccinated?

I don't know anyone here who has had it. The closest is our friend's mechanic's wife took ill a few weeks ago and sadly died last week from Covid. Lots of our friends in the UK and the US have/had it, some twice.

Apparently here 90% hospitalised are unvaccinated.

As of today asymptomatic isolation period reduces to seven days here.

Data from Tuesday's (January 4) report shows that there are now 1,203 inpatients, of which 47 are in intensive care units in Portugal.

So far no one in my immediate family has caught it. My second granddaughter is the only one in a class of 30 to have avoided it. First granddaughter is one of two in her school class not to have caught it. Children that age are being detected by constant testing, they show no symptoms.

It's a different story with my older nephews and nieces and their children who have nearly all caught it, some of them twice. It is because they are all working and mixing or at college and having social lives.

My Grandaughter Kat went into school today for a Covid test, this showed negative. She also tests herself, Sunday & Thursday, so fingers crossed.

                So, who can tell me,
What is the percentage of hospital Covid cases who were not vaccinated?
                By age and ethnicicity?

In with covid - around 50%/50%
In intensive care with covid - around 90% unvaccinated

Vaccination stops you getting really ill.

Don't know about age or ethnicity - but 50+ now being hit with infection. People with black skin are more vaccine hesitant. Don't know why.

A sad story. Our friend was over today to use our mechanic and told the story of why he hasn't been able to use his mechanic of late.

The mechanic's wife and daughter caught Covid and recuperated. A few weeks ago the wife went for her booster, all her shots were Pfizer. Last week she was admitted to hospital and died from a brain clot, apparently the first of such in Algarve The wife was 48. The daughter is 15 and has Down's Syndrone and can be uncontrollable and violent. The Mechanic has his own business and has to take the daughter with him. Services for such are far and few between here. He tried getting her in a home and it was 2000 Euros a month which he cannot afford. A true dilemma!

I just read that in Algarve between the two hospitals taking Covid patients there are ... Interned 77 In ICU 13 On Ventilators 10

No patient in Intensive Care in the Algarve is vaccinated against Covid-19

This Wednesday, the 5th of January, patients with Covid-19 admitted to the Intensive Care Units of Faro and Portimão of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve were «all unvaccinated people», revealed Ana Varges Gomes, chairman of the Council of Administration of the Algarve hospitals. “The patients I have in intensive care, right now, are all unvaccinated people. Therefore, the serious situations, which are the ones that lead people to intensive care, are unvaccinated. The others have a less severe form of the disease», said Ana Varges Gomes to Sul Informação. This is one of the reasons that leads the head of CHUA to say that vaccination "is making all the difference", in terms of the pressure caused by the pandemic on hospitals, which is much lower this year than in early 2021 .
But, as with all rules, there are exceptions. And what are they?
“They are people who are already more debilitated, with other comorbidities, with other associated diseases and who already have a complex state of health. Often, the immune system does not respond as well to the vaccine. And we are talking here, above all, about some elderly people with a burden of disease, who already have some difficulty in their immune response to the vaccine”, she added.
In other words, it is not Covid, by itself, “that will bring about the final outcome”. “There are many comorbidities together and any imbalance can be fatal. We are talking about very old people, over 80 years old, already with a lot of pathology. In other words, it could be Covid, but also a very normal respiratory infection, which has nothing to do with Covid-19”, she concluded.

Slightly off topic but the two mentioned hospitals just got some new doctors ...

"182 intern physicians chose the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) to undertake their internship and practice their specialty. The welcome ceremony took place this Wednesday, January 5th, in Faro and Portimão. The moment brought together 134 General Formation interns and 48 Specialized Formation doctors.

Just asked at the Lloyds pharmacy how you got about getting tests.

The reply was, we don't know, followed by a sarcastic, but there is no shortage.

My brother just went into a pharmacy - asked and was handed the tests.

With those being boosted with an 88% chance of avoiding hospital - we will end up with the unvaccinated; remaining but falling Delta numbers and those with other health issues that Omicron makes worse.

The pandemic is nearly over - even the schools here in Wales are going back to face to face teaching on Monday. The penny has finally dropped.

Have you noticed that there is less Omicron coverage on the BBC? Even these doom mongers know that Omicron is rapidly becoming a non story.

I went to the little pharmacy in our village and they gave me two kits with no problems. I noticed they had just taken delivery of 5 boxes full and the unopened boxes were stacked in their small consulting cupboard.
